Isacord thread

Anybody ever try this? I just left a family function and got into a conversation with my grandmother about rodbuilding. She's quite the seamstress and offered me some of her un-needed thread. It's 40 wt and looks like Madeira but smoother, like the twists are more compact. It looks promising. I'm going to try a test wrap but I would like to hear any thoughts. Thanks

Steve

Excellent thread and perfect for rod building. It is possibly Mettler Isacord? If it is, I have used plenty and it has a great sheen to it. Just remember to use your CP (2 coats should be plenty) to prevent fish eyes.

Regards
Mark

Isacord is a thread specifically designed for embroidery hence the very bright colours, it tends to have a higher silicone lubricant level applied in its manufacture compared to more general use polyester threads such as madeira.
very nice colours, just be meticulous with CP use prior to epoxy.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured there was some lubricant and was prepared for it as I normally use Madeira. Denis, thanks for pointing out that there may be more lube than Madeira, I usually use at least 3 coats of Chromaseal so I think that will do. This may be just what I was looking for to bridge beween the lack of Gudebrod colors and the looser twist of Madeira. I started some test wraps and I'll let y'all know how they turn out. I really like the workability of it so far. Thanks again,

Steve
