It's been a few years, but I cast the 10 wt 4 piece. It took a lot of line in the air to start working. Think it was closer to a 12 wt. We were on the lower tidal areas for salmon, and Mike was throwing, I believe, custom 390 grain shooting heads most of the day.The Tiger Eye trout rods seem to be much closer to their line ratings.

How about the Angler's Workshop TSP90H3 IM6 blank? Rated 15 to 30 lb line, 1 to 4 oz weight. Link to the left. Look in the Travel rod catagory.

Thanks for finding some copies of this book for us, but the VisualWrap program seems like a much better deal. With the program, tutorials, pictures and forums it's pretty incredible.

The #8 BLG is pretty close to a #3 snake, a #6 BLG is pretty close to a # 1 snake.

You mean Madeira? He He. That might help with the search. I've only used nylon, Gudebrod or Angler's.

If you need a little stiffer tip and more backbone might try the Lamiglas MB842, 3/4 to 2 1/4 oz rating - vs - the 841, 1/2 to 1 1/4 oz if I remember right. Angler's might have one on sale, I got a MB 841 for 20% off the other day, there may have been a few 842s in the rack also.

I have the hard copy of the book, so yours is probably more current. My copy is at a friend's place and I just pulled the info off the sheet I have taped up in my shop. I had talked to Rich, about 2 1/2 years ago, and he had said there was some slight modifications to the system coming down the line, but I had the impression he was mostly rethinking rear grip lengths which he had pretty much stan

Ed, Yes, once glued you have to smooth them up and shape and size them. When first bonded you'll get a rough uneven cork cylinder that you have to make into a grip.

Glen, That's not the guide sizes in my copy of Rich's book. My shows 12, 10, 2 ea 8s, than 6s to the tip. 9 guides. Spacing 5,6,7,7,7,7(6,6,6). The ( ) are the revolver guides. I've built that blank, it is strong enough and large enough diameter to handle a full skeleton seat if you want and is pretty comfortable due to the blank dia. All but the 12 are single foot fly.

Off the top of my head these company supply the info. Lamiglas, Am Tackle, Pac Bay, St Croix, Rainshadow, Graphite USA, and Sage. I bet Thomas & Thomas, Winston, and others do also.

If I remember right my Shimano's spool diameter is 42 mm so I use a BYAG 20, instead this will put you in the distances you mentioned from the reel.

Have two halibut/ling cod rods in Alaska built completely on Forecast products. The customer treats them poorly, but they keep coming back for more. The rods have the BSUUG blackframe/blue ring boat guides. Dan Craft introduced me to the Forecast guides and many of my own rods have them.

The only problem is the lack of available blanks as Dan does have thm anymore and it doesn't look like they are coming back.

Steven, Look down the page about half way to the other switch rod post. Bob Meiser in the last post there passes out some good info, and is an excellent source to ensure you get in the ballpark. He's used the Dan Craft blanks for switch rods.

Jeff, Boy, your floating all over the place. If it doesn't have to be 2 piece, Schneider's has some of the 2003 blue Forecast blanks. Can't find a blank that color cheaper than here. SP 844 or 845-DB.

Raymond, if you have RodMaker Volume 4 issue 4 there is an artcle on it in there. Ralph O'Quinn shows how to make the ferrules out of fiberglass blank pieces that you oversleeve the tip section with to make your ferrule.

Been over 30 years since I fished for Togs in Chesapeake Bay. I think a Seeker CLB 708, and you can shorten the butt if you like, would work for you.

When you're fishing, they aren't ever against the blank. Gravity takes care of that. They work on top the blank on casting rods, so on the bottom is a piece of cake.

St Croix 2C70HF2 is black. 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz lure weight. 12 to 25 lb line. American made, If you stay away from the fancy guides you won't miss your limit by much. Maybe $10. Batson or Sevier aluminum oxide guides are a good value.

$ 125 for blank? 3 piece american made. That's as close as I can think of. Will that work?

Fuji, Pac Bay, Sevier and Batson have collectively made #4 ring guides for about 20 years now. The match guide series.

It's cheaper and easier to buy a bizillion 6s, 7s and 8s that cover most everything out there. They match the majority of tip sizes your going to see on blanks.

Is there a shoulder on the cork that the cap has butted up against? If not and you have a ways to go to get it there take some sandpaper and evenly take a little cork off till it bottoms out on the shoulder. Usually there will be a little empty space left in the can, like maybe 1/4 inch or so.
