Johnny, It's probably not Struble's fault if they said the reel wouldn't fit. It's most likely Pfleuger's. I suspect their reel has a reelfoot that doesn't comply with AFFTA standards. Struble was just trying to save you a headache. They received their info from an unsatisfied person calling them before I'm sure.

The Rainshadow IF 1007-3 in the olive green has been very popular. It also comes in matt grey.

I like them, I fish using all the different casts to cover all the water I can. The TFO rods do a pretty fair job of getting it done. They even rollcast well, which is one of the deficiencies I've noticed on some fast tipped high end rods.

Now that you've got the guides on, read the library article on static guide placement. With that you'll know for sure. Good luck on the rod.

A fly rod only has to throw the line's weight and has very little drag in the presentation. The other rods you built are going to have to contend with much greater forces from the line and the hardware involved in their presentation types. The power of the fish isn't near as important as the power requirements placed on the rod by the environment it's in.

Brent, When you see ratings for lure weights they are not always for the same thing. Sometimes they are boat use weight, ie: trolling, jigging, mooching etc. Usually if your going to cross use a blank you can take the boat use weight and half it to get a close estimate of the casting weight it will carry. Lamiglas does have a GLB961MH, maybe they have a typo. Another 2 pc. backbouncer they call

Brent, A lot of the rods in the power range you mentioned are salmon backbouncing blanks. The Rainshadow SW 967 and Calstar Grafighter GF800XL are also being used.

Forecast, Am Tack, and I believe Pac Bay all make 17 mm exposed blank reelseats but they start where the 16 mm sizes stop. The 16 mm will fit low frame bass, the Abus to 6500 size. the Calcuttas thru the 250 size, and the Quantum Capo low frame. The 17 mm will fit the next size reelfoot.

Walt, Haven't had my coffee yet, so I'm not all here. I'd think you'd be using around a 16 mm exposed blank reelseat with a 11.5 mm or 12 mm hole in it depending on your rod taper and where you put it.

I have used the Fenwick Fenglass FS 61 and FS 53 2 piece rods forever for trout, really like the slower action for brushy or light gear conditions. They are also tough as nails for an ultralight.

The 6 ft 6 in CTS would be very close to the Shikari SHX PSJ662, I'd think in all ways.

Since there is no set definition for any of those discriptions in the industry, you get what the manufacturer describes it as, same ithe lure weight and line specs. The CC data system is the only thing I've seen that gives me a definitive answer. Right now a fast or extra fast fly blank is in the range of a mod fast spinning blank and that is a moderate bass blank. Confused yet? LOL.

The Salt Stalker blanks at Angler's Workshop are a very nice and durable blank. I notice that they are also selling some of the ones in your size range for it looks like 1/3 off right now. As Tom said I'm not so sure multi piece rods are any less tough than any other. Drinking a few with some guides, they thought there was a difference, till I asked them what they saw most? Then they admitted in

The Perigee casting blanks are long gone unless your lucky. They used the best graphite for the job on those blanks so it was up to the application intended on what graphite you received. I've built and use many GUSA DHX blanks and they are very tough, straight, and usually just a bit heavier in weight than a comparable high end blank for the same line weight rating. It's the dual helix constru

Also R.B. Meiser sells his own line of switch rod blanks. S2H106 blanks, he has a few action profiles depending on what you need.

It will work very well, I rarely am casting over 30 ft away while fishing bass bugs or sliders. I usually pole into the slop and have at it. There are also some mangrove anglers out the using some of the lighter mag bass and the short hot shot blanks.

I think that single upright guide right, the good people at Custom Tackle Supply were one of the first I know of that brought them in. I think they have as much experience with them as anyone. I would use them on walleye jig rods, finesse bass rods and medium power and lighter steelhead rods with no reservations.

I have the stainless framed, Ti coated Forecast guides on my 10 wt Dan Craft Sig V, it handles them just fine. That's the guides Dan suggested for this blank. If you go with the high frameTSVSG guides as your first two I don't think you need a 20 ring. Probably don't in the first place. I don't like the barb on the foot as they get in my way of making a smooth, no gap wrap. I always grind them of

I've three GLX rods none are underwrapped. One is a steelhead rod, a 4 power popping rod, and a 6 wt fly rod. It might have been the flipping sticks or something heavy powered that I haven't seen.

They make exposed blank size 26 reelseats now? Off the top of my head it looks like he needs to ream about 3/64" and if your putting the threads toward the butt, it could get interesting I think.

Save the tool buying for later, My first rods were static tested by wrapping the grip in a towel and closing it in a drawer to get the angle I needed. To start you need only what the good lord gave you, the M 1 A eyeball.

The reelseat is like only 5.5 " long if I remember right, I'd buy a new seat. Sorry, you'll know better next time. Use this seat on your next rod.

Larry, You're looking at the Fuji IPS reelseats. You can get various non-wood Fuji offerings and some others for that seat from the Merrick catalog also. If you have to buy retail, you can get Merrick stuff from some of the sponsors to the left. Summer Moon comes to mind.

I'd use one #4 and the rest #3. My 10wt has #8 Ceramics which are the same ring size as a #3 wire and they pass every knot/loop connection I've ever tied with room to spare.
