I was wondering if anyone has built the 10 and 12 wt rods on these blanks and how do they perform in the salt . Re: Tiger Eye blanks

It's been a few years, but I cast the 10 wt 4 piece. It took a lot of line in the air to start working. Think it was closer to a 12 wt. We were on the lower tidal areas for salmon, and Mike was throwing, I believe, custom 390 grain shooting heads most of the day.The Tiger Eye trout rods seem to be much closer to their line ratings. Not all rods are designed for the length of line. That's the biggest problem with fly rod ratings over the past couple decades. You just don't know what amount of the rated line the rod was designed to work best with. Generally, nearly all fly rods in the upper line weight ranges are designed to work best with a longer length of the rated line past the tip than most light line weight rods.
I've only fooled around with a couple of Tiger Eye blanks and none quite as heavy as what you ask about. Both were nice blanks, great values for the money, although in the 8-weight range I thought it might be a tad heavier in the hand than similar, and much more expensive, blanks from other makers. Overall, I like the Tiger Eye blanks. Very decent performance, good durability and a price that's hard to beat. They represent a great value. ............ Re: Tiger Eye blanks

I can't speak for their 10 wt, but I was very pleased with a 4 piece 8 wt I built for salt. This was shortly before the CC data came out & I've never checked it out using the system. However, it performs well with an 8 line & I've never had any reason to doubt it's rating.
2 cents, Tim Re: Tiger Eye blanks
