Marc Xerox has a few that are called color solid printers thing is I don't think they print in white nor metallics something to look at and there are some super high priced printers that will do almost anything but the cost and size puts them out of contention unless printing is your business John

Billy actually they were for his sons, on the flip side are the boys names, no one ever said I was a good photographer LOL didn't know that photo still existed on line ,Scott that wrap is easy but no I didn't build the rods. Shawn I used the gudebrod pewter on a rod I did build but later found one made by I believe Rice that was far better, Just checked Scott's link and that I believe would be

Scott if I recall Ralph once mentioned that the grooved reel seats was not the best idea, many felt at the time they came out that the grooves would fill with adhesive and prevent twist.this was a common misconception in reality a flat surface prepared properly actually offers a much better bond and filling in the grooves did nothing but add weight. Many of the lower end factory rods really scrim

Jeff are you certain it is an AllStar rod and not a Star rod-most of the Star rods have the entire surface of the blank and wraps covered in flex coat and it is common in Fl for people to want the rod re coated. The question becomes how bad is the old coating a common repair is simply paint black any scratches, lightly scuff the blank with a scotch guard pad and refinish not the best solution bu

I have turned quite a number of small items pens etc. and I agree with Lance sharp as possible and fast, from what I have read in the past one of the bigger problem with turning acrylics is heat, it will cause them to fracture so light cuts reduces this possibility. The only other thing that is very important is to wear a full face shield when turning acrylics getting hit with a chip hurts get

One thought on the topic if you are serious about getting into the business the more you know and can do the more sales you will make, those limited as to what they are capable of doing will eventually loose some business to others who can do what a customer wants so I would suggest developing as many skills as possible, and making a high performance rod is a skill also John

Tell you what is odd I do repairs for a number of shops and it is surprising how many people will buy an inexpensive rod and then request a butt wrap put on them the persons name etc usually for a gift. Good money John

Hi Billy One thing you may find hard to believe is using the internet to form a club doesn't work as well as we imagine,it amazes me how few rod builders participate in forums and often don't know they exist. That said Mudhole host an open house in Oct. last year over 200 rod builders mostly from Fl. attended perhaps you could contact Tom or Scott re setting up something at this years open house

Bill have done a lot of them with no problems, you can in reality apply the finish in an hour sometimes less after applying the decal, the only possible problem is if you wait more then 24 hours total after applying the first application of finish, my routine apply finish about 5 PM apply decal next morning say at 8 and second application of finish at 9 AM John

Mike almost all the Pen rods are coming out of the far east and use guides that they can get at good prices, generally you can find either a Batson or American Tackle guide that is close, lastly tell the customer the truth the guides used are not necessarily the best quality and you have upgraded the guide you used to a better model John

Jay this takes some pratice but once you can do it you will never go back to scissors use a single edge razor blade held at an angle(same as scissors) you can really trace the outline of the decal very closley-for a fish say start at the nose and work around back to the starting point once you reach there you can lift the decal with the razor blade avoid using fingers place the decal . You can g

Steve I don't know if the frequency of repair is much different from other rods but every repair I have done with them and it is quite a lot was do do the ring falling out. One thing to remember most of the people using these rods don't pay particular care of them and they get far more abuse then high end rods. Again not certain if they are the same guide but Ugly Stik also uses them on the lite

Steve I think you will find they are made by a few manufacturers or made to different specks, there seems to be a big problem with the rings falling out on many of the maassed produced rods, BUT I have no idea if these guides are identical to what janns offers John

Buzz was this blank an import by any chance, one of my repair customers has a series of rods made in China,I can't do anything with them re decals or thread work without first using scotch brite then a coat of permaglos, our finishes will not adhere to these blanks runs away as if the entire thing is contamoinated-it laughs at trying to clean with alcohol, even under the thread when it hits the bl

Scott see a number of them, generally they are trolling the skyway with 80lb line get hung and the rod breaks directly below the reel seat invariably it is a large fish that did it although it is rare to shear off completley John

I have had occassion to see this a number of times, seems each time it was with heavy guides particulary rollers and very heavy non flexible epoxy. Shimano pulled a large number of rods some years ago just because of this on one of their series, they used a guide similar to Fuji's BULG downright scary sound. I don't recall seeing it with any of the lighter frame guides, been explained as the fee

Tim I had the good fortune to test the batch before the final formula all I will say is JUST wait till you try it, if you are looking for a true light finish virtualy bubble free while mixing, with what I felt was the best flow of any finish I have tried Threadmaster light is it, a real pleasure to work with. As previously posted on March 31, 2007 Alps Electric (USA) Inc. no longer offers any support for the MD Series Printers models MD-2010/ 4000/ 2300/ 1000/ 1300/ 5000 respectively. From thye Alps support site. Richard try the alps groups on yahoo as Putter suggested, from what I recall the 2010 does not print white this can be worked around so it will do so but since it can't normally print white

Gary some years ago I received some samples from a company that manufacturers epoxies, now I am a coward with epoxies and decided to try them first on butt caps rather then grips or reel seats the first couple seemed to work just fine, for the most part the difference was simply in cure time, BUT one was a horror mixed the two parts equaly glued on the caps next day the caps twisted right off t

Karry when using a clear decal you actually can look through it to what is below what you see is the lettering etc but also the area sourounding it since the label is clear you get a matte look to that area while the portion covered with just the finish has a high gloss. Just looks unattractive John

Shawn Dogfish has their rods made by a couple of small companies in Fl. As Scott said they flex coat the entire gator blanks if you pull of the butt cap or remove the gimball you can see if it is unsaned if so it is a Gator Glass, if it has a smooth butt it is Forecast Also most times if the butt wrap is not underwrapped in a solid color usually metalic it is Gator Glass most likley the T80H S
