I just acquired 2 200lb class Harnell trolling rods. What beauties these are. they are both stuck were the rod goes into the reel seat any ideas on how to get them apart? Thanks

Scott normally I would say heat from a heat gun with care but at least down here many actually were fiberglassed to oversize then sanded to be a perfect fit to the unibut this made for an extremely strong bond you may have to cut the uni butt not an easy job to remove the blank maybe someone else has a better idea

This is not a Unibutt it is a Varmac reel seat and hardwood butt and then the ferrell that is attached to the rod is inserted into the reel seat. I am trying to seperate the reel seat from the ferrell.

Scott still comes down to the same thing only difference is those chrome brass reel seats are tough to cut through ,other option possible is to heat rear portion of seat often the glue used on the wood has dried out and can be removed easier, once that is removed it might be easier to get the blank out of the ferule

Try some PB Blaster; it is a darned good spray product for getting two pieces of metal loose from each other. We use this a lot in the oilfield for nuts and bolts stuck together and I've read on here recently where it worked very well for what you're speaking of, too.

PB Blaster(Peanut Butter Blaster around here) Has freed up rusted in spark plugs that were about to break in marine applications here to where once they were cracked loose they turned out with your fingers.Great stuff.Give it time to work.

Where can I get the PB Blaster?

Any auto parts store and many hardware stores carry PB Blaster. It is very good stuff, but do give it time to work, I have waited as much as a week for it to break parts free. Spray it on and stand the rods up so gravity helps the PB Blaster get into the frozen area.
