I have wondered about this as well. As soon as I saw some info on the web about 3D printers I thought rods! I am looking forward to the technology to mature. Thanks for your comments Casey. Dave Boyle www.threadcentral.net

Best wishes to everybody for a great Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. Thanks to all who have supported us in 2012. Here in South East Queensland, Australia, the cicadas are chirping their heads off and the weather is really hot. For those still recovering from Sandy and other events of 2012 I hope the New Year brings you peace and happiness. A special thanks to Tom Kirkman & spo

Hi John, No need to apologise and certainly no offence taken, it's just that you mentioned VisualWRAP patching and Win8 in the same sentence, which I felt I had explained. Wrap has been tested to work on Win8 with some tweaks. It is Weave that remains untested at this stage. I suspect Weave will run OK on Win8 because it runs OK on Win7 without tweaks. Compatibility issues aside, the one piec

Hi John, Your question about Win8 compatibility was answered a little while ago: I am in discussions with a party regarding a possible patch for Win 7 & Win 8. Not sure if it is possible at the moment but hoping so. In the meantime it can be patched manually following some instructions (if you are computer literate and confident), or I can do it remotely. - - - - - - - - A genera

John, VisualWRAP will run on XP without patching. It will run on Vista, Win7 & Win8 with patching. Email me for more details. Another option for Win7 is XP mode (ie running vizwrap in a virtual machine) VisualWEAVE will run on XP, Vista, Win7 without patching. It hasn't been tested on Win8 yet. The ThreadCentral website is a bit screwed up at the moment due to an upgrade done by my I

Hi, Just saw this thread. I normally respond to a request for an unlock code within 2 days. Any longer than that and I've either missed seeing the email or I didn't receive it. So if I'm slow in responding it makes sense to re-send the email. Thanks Dave Boyle www.threadcentral.net

G'day, The simplest way to get vizwrap to run on Win7 is to reduce The Windows User Access Control (UAC) setting to "Never Notify". This allows the software to run without tweaks. The alternative is to leave UAC alone and make the tweaks that are detailed here: Regards Dave Boyle www.threadcentral.net

That's good news Owen. I stand by my original comments, had the thread fade on my boy's rod within a couple of weeks. I still use the rod and what started as blue now looks off-white. Perhaps it was a bad batch. Regards Dave Boyle

I would have to say the best food at the Expo last year was served at the NERBS booth - Dan Matsukas's smoked salmon! It was delicious! Regards Dave

Maybe I should send the Frogley guy some photos of my son's rod wrapped in Speed blue which faded to almost white in a matter of weeks!! It is a very disappointing thing to see happen considering it is meant to be rodbuilding thread. And I used CP on the wraps (Erskines). Mine wasn't Brilliant Blue it was Royal Blue. I had the same problem some years ago using Speed thread. The blue faded incredibly quickly. I have also used the Speed red and it looks as bright today as it did when I wrapped it years ago, so it must be certain colours only. Cheers Dave Boyle www.threadcenrtal.net

Vizwrap calculates spacing based on the assumption of a square pattern. If you estimate where you want your pattern to start and finish and put those measurements into the Taper View screen then it will look at the number of repeats you selected, work out the diameter at the middle of the wrap (by averaging the butt and tip diameters), and then work out the length of the wrap by multiplying the c

What an awesome thread. I see this as a search for meaning. I'm there, looking for it in everything I do, finding it sometimes, other times wondering where it has gone. I've got no idea whether you should keep your gear or not. What I know is that things change, people change, what makes people happy changes. Thank you Mike for the inspirational stuff you have posted and shared with us ove

It was a fantastic trip! Highlights of the show for me included: - Seeing Lana Preston's innovative work - Getting coated with EVA dust while the Wizard in the neighbouring boothing did his stuff (lol - just kidding - the crowd loved seeing the lathe in action) - Watching in amazement as Bill cast his "little guide" rod and changed my perception of what guides are "right&q

I'm really happy to say that today, after many intense months of preparation for the new product, we will be boarding the plane and making our way to the US. First stop will be LA (lookout Customs, it's me again...) then it's Florida for a tour of the Mud Hole facility on Friday, then we make our way up to NC for the big show and product launch. Due due our travels I am likely to be slow in re

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. We're launching this at the ICRBE in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! The desire was to present cross wrap patterns in a very simple, intuitive format. We ended up with what we call "Decorative Wraps Pattern Animations". The "Decorative Wraps" title follows the branding Billy introduced with his book, and "Pattern Animations" are what

Thanks Bob! Yes, will be great to catch up at the show. Fred, we may be able to offer a sneak peak before the show, but don't want to give away too much just yet! Billy and I have been working on this for a while now. Feb and the show are only just around the corner. I'm starting to feel NERBous! Cheers Dave www.threadcentral.net
