Great question and I look forward to hearing from the experienced builders. I haven't used Threadmaster 1 part yet but have used Perma Gloss and that is a one part urethane finish. I do not know what Threadmaster is made of but I'm thinking it's probably something similar. Perma Gloss negatives: product storage is a major issue and I've learned from this forum that storing in the re

Got it, thank you all very much for your time and input. The syringe method is proven to work great for many years with many highly experienced rod builders. I sincerely respect that! Although, I find using weight I eliminate messy syringes. Put cup on scale, put in the amount of weight for each product and voila, i'm done and never touched 2 syringes! And to boot, far more accurate.

Wilson, great idea about the new full bottles. I didn't consider this!!!!! Well, I called Scott at Rod Dancer and he had no clue. I thought he purchased the patent rights from Andy for ThreadMaster, therefore I thought he would know that information about his product. If I need to contact someone else I wouldn't know who. When I get home I will look on the bottle for a manufacturer phone

I'm looking for the weight in grams or ounces for the 1:1 ratio of Threadmaster epoxy, regular and lite. If anyone knows this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time, ~ Mark

Measuring by volume is satisfactory, and as prior discussions stated, large batches produce good results while small batches increase the margin of error. I use TM and get the best results by weight, small batch or large batch it's so consistent. I use a gram scale. Using weight as your measurement you can actually mix enough for one guide. Volume, well I'm sure some people...I can't! We

Better/worst, not good for guides..., etc. Does anyone know the difference between polyneon and other "rod wrapping threads". For example, the tensile strength, the number of twist per mm, or any other technical difference? "I feel" is good to know, but after a few dozen "I feel" and no hard data...it becomes the male drama version of Ophra!

Jim, I have encountered the same dilemma, I fished with just the thread holding the guides for the entire weekend. No CP or epoxy. Now the threads where a little frayed and not suitable for finishing after the trip, but it was just fine for fishing. Clean, re-thread and finish the rod after your trip and no-worries! Catch a big one! ~Mark

Common Cents System: How many rod builders are actively using this system? Is it gaining traction among professional rod builders? Are you incorporating the CCS into your sales to the public? Or, have you tried using CCS and gave up, why? Is this idea dying on the vine? I realize it’s up to the rod builder to educate…I want to hear how it’s being received. I see North

Darrell, I anodized my Renzetti lathe a couple years ago and if you think these rod lathes look nice, then anodized is absolutely beautiful! There are a few pieces that still are aluminum silver and the contrasts is very nice. I never realized anyone else anodized their lathe until I saw this thread, and as mentioned there are other very good reasons. I'm surprised that Renzetti hasn't of

Thank you Owen, that helps a lot. Mike, I've exhausted my search and found a lot of threads about leather grips, handles and material. But none I found actually laid out the steps, most of the comments were drama concerning problems and opinions. I would have preferred to find my answers using a search of past threads; but thank you for reminding us all. Thank you for your time, ~

Can anyone, please explain the process used to make nice classy leather fore-grips? I purchase the leather wrapping and am planning on laying it over hard EVA. I've not glued the fore-grip to the rod yet. I think I have a general idea on how to start, but I'd like for the forum to help me minimize my mistakes. I want the ends to be crisp and sharp. - epoxy? - tie off ends with?

P.S. to add to the previous post: What I meant by the "one line of thinking" was political ideology, not a slam on the retailers. And yes, in years past the "shipping & handling" charges was extra revenue. But not anymore, it has become par or close enough to matter not. Inflation is up and will move higher in the next year. We, the people, America has a v

Shipping cost: Be prepared, by next year I expect UPS, Fed-X, and USPS will increase their rates by 1/3 or more! Not all of the "inflationary" cost have been passed onto the consumers, yet! And yes, one line of thinking should take a lion's share of the blame! ~Mark

Bill, Pay no attention to that Yankee Steve Gardner! Or, any number of e-mails claiming any such...I WON THE SWAMPLAND BLANK. You do know the "North" starts just the other-side of Monroe! Just ask Timberlake! And I'm thinking about wrapping the butt with one of Clyde's "friends". ~Mark P.S. If you do send Gardner a blank, send him a "micro" bla

Rich and all whom I've offended with my "panties" statement. That statement was a "METAPHOR". I certainly didn't think ANYONE would take it out of context, otherwise...I'd use "hold your horses". Metaphor's are not immature. If anyone thinks I have any disrespect for this forum...please re-read my comments, specifically on my respect... I sincerely

I just knew someone would rip their panties Mike and all. Re-read the very first two post on this thread. Then re-read my previous post. There you will see the "inferences" of the "higher than thou part". Anyone transposing opinions into facts, I have little respect for the fact rational part. But I do respect your opinion, just don't imply its fact. Or, at le

No offense, so keep your panties on! FACTS are what us "non-believers" are trying to ascertain! Circular reasoning justifying opinions and translating into "facts" is all we got so far! But please, if its only opinions this thread needs to end. ~Mark

Well I hope one piece rods are not the cause of global warming: I'm a new builder...and personally prefer a one piece rod. I personally, think given all things equal, the one piece would logically "feel" more sensitive/better. Although I would love to be proven wrong. Is there some kind of OBJECTIVE FACTS that I'm missing? Now I do believe there is a big subjective element a

Robert, Ray, & Kevin I spoke with you, Robert & Ray, yesterday about these rods and you both were very helpful. In these days, its a pleasure to actually speak with the "owners" that know something about the products rather than a teenager on a summer job being paid minimum wage. Meaningful service in America, its such a pleasure when you come across this in life.
