If any of you folks were ever in doubt about the Maderia Poly Neon threads, don't be! This thread is fantastic to work with, has great color, and the quantity you get on a spool is great!
Just thought I would throw that out to all of you... Happy wrapping! Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

I agree with Paul....The only thing I would suggest is to paint the blank white under the neon threads...make the color really bright.... Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

THe only problem with the thread is figuring out what colors to buy, I simplofoed that process by offering shade packs: [northeastrodbuilders.com] I've been using MAdiera for 9 years, I prsonally do not like it for guide wraps but for Dec WRaps there is nothing better. Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

I am curious about the wisdom of using it for guide wraps. I had heard that nylon was stronger and wouldn't rot over time. I have no real experience with polyester or rayon thread. What are the pros and cons of those types when used for wrapping guides? Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

I've been using it on guide wraps for 4 or 5 years with no problems. Have no idea what the break strength is compared to nylon but use it on musky, downrigger and salmon rods and it's more than strong enough for them Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! I've been using it for everything for over 2 years and find it good to work with. Unlike Billy I like it for guide wraps. The only problems I've had are where the plastic cover doesn't protect the thread at the tip of the spool and the thread was dirty. Had to discard a couple hundred meters from a few spools to get clean thread. Only shows up on the light coloured thread. Occasionally there is bits of what I think is silicon attached to the thread which needs to be removed otherwise it can spoil your work. It's got a lot more stretch than regular rod binding thread but you soon get used to it. As most of my butt wraps are endless the stretch is a bonus as it makes it a lot easier to sew threads in. Light colours over dark blanks need to be packed well or the blank colour will show through or you can do what Harry mentioned - paint under them. If you can't find colours that you like from their range then your hard to please.

I'm not sayign it willnot work for guide wraps, I just do not use CP on guide wraps - personal choice. If you are going to use it for guide wraps you shoudl transfer it to a spool that fits your particular thread carriage. If you use a tension device that puts tension on the spool, you almost have to do this because the thread might slip off the end and you will lose a lot of thread.
Here ar some diamond and chevron wraps I did recently with the NERBs shade packs [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

There are probably any number of thread types that would be OK for use as a guide wrapping thread. Nylon is used by the specialty makers because the factory rod companies know it is the strongest for its diameter and has the most long term durability for exterior use. Re: Maderia Poly Neon Thread

Better/worst, not good for guides..., etc.
Does anyone know the difference between polyneon and other "rod wrapping threads". For example, the tensile strength, the number of twist per mm, or any other technical difference? "I feel" is good to know, but after a few dozen "I feel" and no hard data...it becomes the male drama version of Ophra! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/07/2010 11:43AM by Mark J. Mire.
