Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know that we are making some changes here at Lamar. Last month I was offered a position with a production Rod Company to manage their product development program for their fly and inshore saltwater division. The upshot is that I will also be heading up the rodbuilders blank program, making many if not all of the tapers we develop available to th

Billy, Without spending another 5 years on research, my personal opinion is that some of it it has to do with how light refracts off the surface of a dry matte finish thread, as opposed to a wet glossy finish thread. For example, ever notice how a paint job on a car looks deeper and richer just after it has been waxed (as opposed when it's dry and has been out in the sun for a

To my knowledge it is compatible with any finish. I have tested it with ThreadMaster....of course, FlexCoat, and an older version of DuraGloss. Obviously I hope that you will use ThreadMaster as your finish of choice, but it is compatible with other finishes. I am not going to test them all, because I just don't have the time. Burton, to answer your question, Jim Upton has been doing testing fi

Hi Billy, Were blending 120 gallons of the stuff on Monday of next week. Bottling will begin late next week, so buy the time it reaches the dealers, it will probably be around the end of the month as Mrs. Hapka stated. I know it's been a long wait for you guys, and many of you are very anxious....trust me, I am as well. It took over 5 years to devolop this formula, and I hope all

Greg, We have several large OEM's using this product, and what they are doing is using the lite as a "primer coat" because of the added saturation and flexability, then topping with the High Build because it provides better abrasion resistance, much quicker. If all you have is the Lite, then definately use 2 coats...you'll get a beautiful finish. Andy Dear Lamar Fish

Just as an FYI, I coated 4 rods this afternoon in my shop which was 90 degrees at 12:00pm (forgot to trun the AC on this morning) finish was tack free at 4:00pm. As I have stated before.....ThreadMaster likes the heat! Andy Dear Lamar Fishing

Jerry check you're email.....if you're using the lite, and it's still tacky, it's usually ALWAYS temperature related. I just coated a rod with TML last night at 9:00pm and at 7:00am it was not tacky at all...but the room temp was about 74-76 degrees. I know some of you folks are still gettig some cool weather in certain parts of the country, so be aware of your room temperature. If you're havi

Hey guys, Some of you may know this already, but for those of you who do not, the AllStar Composites facility in Houston Tx. after over 20 years of producing high quality rods and blanks is being shut down, and production moved overseas. All rods sold under the AllStar name will be coming out of a factory in the orient after July 1st. On a personal note, I was very sad to

The problem with cleaning first, then scuffing a guide wrap is that you'll end up with tiny pieces of "sanding dust" that will settle in the grooves you've created via the sanding. This dust will reveal itself when you put the next coat of finish on, and it will look TERRIBLE. So follow Tom's advice, and DO not use a solvent in the last step, but be sure to wipe the dust off with somet

Hi Shawn, It's not arrogant at all for to say that it's impossible for YOUR batch of TM Lite to be contaminated from the factory....it's simple math. I manufacture those kits in lots of several thousand at a time. So if you'rs was bad, I'd be inundated with emails from other folks around the globe claiming the same thing, and it's simply not happening. Additionally, I should

Tim, Your post just gave my product the highest compliment possible.....I know you were being a little self depricating in a funny way, but that's what we strive for is to make products easy enough to use that the beginner can achieve professional results. I certainly don't expect everyone to become a dedicated ThreadMaster user, but I do hope that everyone who tries it to at least giv

Recently one of my Distributors called to my attention that there was a discussion on this board pertaining to some curing problems with ThreadMaster Lite. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that we are expierencing aboslutely ZERO curing/contamination problems with TM Lite. Many of you that are expierence problems with finish are convinced that it is a contaminated batch, or that there is

Scott, The version you have been using is the same backbone resin as the one I used in the pics just posted, but with some improved working properties (quicker dry, better color retention, especially on Madiera). I think you'll like the newer version even better than the previous one I sent you. One other thing I failed to mention is that the dry film over black thread is complete

Just to let you guys know, we are now stocking the 1.5" x 12" blocks of Urethane foam core material mentioned in the article on carbon fiber grips I recently wrote for RodMaker. Normally foam like this is only available in large sheets making it quite cost prohibitive. This rigid foam in 4lb and 6lb density is fantastic for use a s a core material under carbon, or as a platform for flo

Robert, Hot Stuff can be used very effectively to fill cracks/voids etc.....when you're turning reelseats or handles out of wood. Additionally it makes quite a nice finish for small turnings like reelseats and pens. There are some secrets to maximizing the use of CA glue that you'll have to watch the DVD to learn, but basically that's what it's used for. As an aside, Dale
