Making my "dream rod" here and going to try to use the Torzite guides. There doesn't seem to be a traditional stripper guide. Has anyone use the Torzite guides from Fuji on a heavy fly rod and if so which layout did you go with? Think I can go all single foots use locking wraps. The newer torzite frames seem very stiff and strong.

Disabled angler is me! I use a wheelchair and wish to make a rod for my dream trip to Fl and I plan to try to catch Mahi mahi on it. I'm a bit weaker than a average person so forget a 40 pound rod. I just want to catch a smaller Mahi on a rod that I made. I'm looking at the St. Croix SCV inshore 7 foot rod in the medium heavy that can cast up to 1 1/4 ounces. Or should I get the St. Croix SCV 7 f

My Sustain 4000 FE is 2.42 inches. My Sustain 2500 FE is 2.44 inches! Slightly longer. My Stella 1000 FD is 2.43 inches. This is according to my dail caliper.

I built a sweet little 3 wt on a St. Croix Avid blank that I fished with today. Very pleased with it. Caught 19 but the big one got away. Very light and just a great USA made blank that has a good warrenty. Try one and I think he'll be very pleased with it and its a great value too.

I'm looking at this blank as a long distance spinning rod for fishing off of docks and the bank. I would set it up as a spinning rod. I'm intrigued with its ability to throw 1/2 to 1 3/8 ounce lures but still be a fast action lighter rod. Just don't want to go the surf blank as that would be overkill for the fish I catch. Target fish will be stripe hybrids, catfish and bass from the bank and dock

Look at the 3 piece Lamiglass 904 popping blank on clearance at the Mudhole. I have one and it loads enven down to 1/8 ounce. It is a 7 1/2 foot cannon with a 1/4 ounce bait. Takes down to VERY short and easy to carry. He would love this rod and its the right price also.

Can't you just cut 9 inches off the butt of a St. Croix 5S66LF-G and pretty much get a 5S59ULF? I have a 5S66LF-G and it would make a great UL rod with 9 inches off the butt. Call St. Croix and see what they say about that.

I would like to know if anyone has made one and how it works? How short is it when collasped? Can you make a spinning or spin casting rod out of it? Is it durable and solid when extended? Strange they make it with the high grade SCIV, I would think it would be better with standard graphite. Any info or opinions would be appreciated. BillyR P.S this is the 4S80 MLF I'm looking at. Thanks.

Check out the Lamiglass clearance blanks at Mudhole. I got a nice deal on a 7' 6" popping rod and its in 3 pieces so he can fit it in his trunk.

Bob get that 8 weight flyrod out and buy yourself a Hellsbay skiff and you'll find there isn't any better place to be on this earth than the mosquito lagoon at dawn chasing the tailing Redfish. Oh and I expect a invite once your settled in!

Its on Shimano's site now. 2500 size spinning reel at only 7 ounces! With some of these superlight spinning reels coming out it seem there is pressure to make the rods even lighter to balance. However looking at the ESPN bass fishing show I was stunned at how many of the pros broke their rods on just this ONE show. Have we reached the point of diminishing returns on the "lighter, lighter, lig

I've fished that handle hard for 12 years and never had the reel budge. This is how I did it: I marked on the cork where the reel went. I got some Fuji hot glue and put two dabs on eather end of the reel seat and stuck it on the cork. I then put some more hot glue around the foot. I slipped the rings over reel foot very frimly and put some more dabs of hot glue on them. I then wraped it all in b

I was looking at a Lamiglass "popping" rod 3 piece 7'6" blank-LGC IMP904-3 8-17 Lb. line. My question is how would that action be rated? Fast? Moderate? I was going to use it in freshwater, I want the 3 piece design, but wanted to know how that blank would translate to freshwater stats. I think its 3/8th to 3/4th lures but I mostly wanted to find out the fast/moderate/slow action

Check out the Mudhole closeouts on Lamiglass. They have the older 9wt XMG 4 piece 9" Lamiglass on clearance. I've got one and I'm building it right now. It is the exact equal to my old Thomas & Thomas Horizon 8wt in my "pulling" contest so it should handle 9 weight line just fine. I use 9wt on my T&T. Very good deal on a blank.

I taught my neices and nephews with a Avid 3F703.2, seven foot 3 weight rod. Here is my advice.....get him something he can use right away. Forget about him using it as a teen because by the time he is 14 he will want a 9' cannon anyway. Get a 2 piece for simplicity and a St. Croix in case he breaks it. Avid blanks are made in USA and you can get a replacement. Get a durable cheap Fuji seat and

I have a spigot Scott. I love it. You'll get to love the spigot system too. I don't mind the gaps in the least after using my Scott the first time several years ago.

Looking at my ultra light spinning rod project and thinking of just using Rod Bond to mount the reel to the cork. I would first cut a bit of a inlay into the cork. I would think 1/16th of a inch would be about right. Its not a rugged rod and I wondered if anyone else out there has just glued a spinning reel onto the cork handle. I love the feel of cork and sometimes the tape/rings of a normal han

My running guides are going to be Fuji TLSG4-J. They are tiny and weigh the same as the Recoil single foot fly number 1 size. I am going to wrap one as a tip top using the locking Forhan wrap. This is on a Loomis 5' ultralight blank that will never see any line over 4 pound test. My question is can I wrap the guide pretty much out to the very tippy tip of the rod or do I need to set it back about

"Best possible guides" and "cheap" do not go together very well. Here was my solution. I have the single foot Recoils on one of my rods and while they ARE lightweight they sure do "sing" when the line pulls through them. So much so that on my next lightweight 3wt rod I used the smallest steel snake guides I could find. I shortend the feet on them to make them lighter

I'm disabled and like to fish from the creek bank. I would like a longer rod to help get over brush and roots. I'm looking at the lamiglass XMG 50 9wt 4 piece blank. They are said to be extra fast to "ultra fast" so it would be about a moderate action spinning rod I would guess. I know the warrenty won't be good but thats not a concern. Mostly I was wanting some feedback on what weight

Just got my Loomis IMX 5' blank and going to make a very light rod out of it. Looking at the option of using the single foot Recoil fly guides as runner guides. I was going to use slik thread with minimum finish. Anyone out there try the Recoils as spinner guides and what comments can you make on them used as such? This is my personal rod so if its not right the first time I can make it right....

Ok I've read about 300 pages and I think I know about the weight/durability comparisons of these two guides. What I would like to hear is does the slicker surface of the Sic make for longer casts? I'm looking to make a long range panfish spinning rod out of a st croix SCV 6'6" blank . Weight is a issue for me but if the Recoils cost a couple of feet on the cast ,all things being equal,I'll

Or does anyone know if St. Croix has actually shipped these blanks? I'm looking for a Avid SCIII 7' 3wt 2 pc in the "pearl green" and the 5' 9" Ultralight spinning rod blank in SCv in "pearl brown". Everyone has the older blanks, even Cabela's 2006 tacklecraft catalog lists the old St. Croix blanks instead of the new models. I've called St. Croix and got a guy that was ve
