Just got my Loomis IMX 5' blank and going to make a very light rod out of it. Looking at the option of using the single foot Recoil fly guides as runner guides. I was going to use slik thread with minimum finish. Anyone out there try the Recoils as spinner guides and what comments can you make on them used as such? This is my personal rod so if its not right the first time I can make it right.............maybe..... Re: Recoil fly guides as spinning guides on a UL?

I assume you're talking about the ringed guides, not the snakes. They should be fine for that purpose. I know that some complain about the sound of line running across them and it does sound different than the same line against ceramic rings. But I'm not aware of any damage being done to the line or the guides under normal use.

Quantum made some rods 4 1/2 to 7 ft long called "Micro" rods. 10 years ago or so, that used a sf fly style guide in the tip section to cut weight. They were little things much smaller that the REC guides, I still see some being used and still in good condition. Re: Recoil fly guides as spinning guides on a UL?

Great for weight reduction and increasing rod performance.
They may groove over time and will be harder on the line while fighting a fish. I don't know this for a fact but I was told they would groove. I just haven't seen it myself. If you have good results please let me know I'm always pushing for increased rod performance and this is a sure way of getting more. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
