Hi All
I have been building rods for the last 35 plus years and on fly rods ive always put stripping guides with two feet . My question is or query is what is stopping me from putting a large single leg stripping guide, is it weaker, will it cause line tangles.
Thanks in advance

My current build is a Sage Sonic blank in a 7 weight, after building lots of fly and spinning rods over the last 30 years or so i got thinking today, what would stop me from using single leg guides through out the whole rod. Using larger single leg guides for the stripping guides, advantages/disadvantages.
thought please.
and many thanks in advance

I had heard through a major UK rod distributor that they were in fact looking to import from Thailand,as to the truth i am not sure but this came from th MD of a large UK company.
So i would guess the answer to Toms question would be Thailand.

Hi Guys
I have seen the answer to this question on here , but in doing the search couldnt seem to find it this time,so i am sorry to ask .
How long after you coat the whippings with threadmaster do you need to wait before you can use the rod,
As with all the rods i build i can be patient during the build but once its done i just want to get out and play.
Thanks in Advance.

I live in the UK and buy quite a bit of rod building stuff from the USA,one things for sure,if you send it under insured to beat UK customs and it goes missing or there is no proof of delivery, you will only get the insured value back, not what the item is actually worth.
in The UK HMS customs and exsise will base the duty and VAT on the goods actual insured value. Some parcels even dont get pick

Personally i use a Batson RX8+ in a 9ft 6in #7 and although it feels a tad heavier in the air during the casting stroke than my sage z axis ,i have more confidence in it because of this extra weight especially when using very fast sinking lines,
It easily handles everything i could ask of it for throwing weighted flies to the extreme,on the other hand it still allows me to fish small size 14

Hi
Dont know if any one can help on this one,I need to replace the butt guide from a sage z axis,I emailed sage and they told me I should use #340 gold thread.I have duly done this and the colour is nowhere near what it should be.
I have emailed sage again with this query but in the meantime was wondering if any one out there knows already what colour i should be using.
Thanks in Advance

out of the blanks i have built on,and i have built a few,i really like/love the feel and action of the CTS affinity one blanks i have recently built on,the line ratings are dead right for 30feet of the given line ratings they are for plus the after sales service is also 2nd to none.I can directly relate the action of my other favourite rod my 9ft 6in batson RX8 with my new sage z axis 9f

Hi Frantz
I can only help with a comparison i did on a sage factory 9 ft #6 TCR,i own a factory rod and decided to build a second TCR using single leg REC guides but the same spacings,my conclusion was this, although the custom rod felt a little lighter in the hand there was no difference in the casting distance or fishability of the rod although i did notice that the custom built rod was a l

Hi All
When in this type of stuation ,the best advice is the advice of my dear old mother,
"when in doubt do nowt" just say it as it reads.
This guy cannot obviously complete in the market place on quality of goods so he has to be underhand in other ways.
"just sit back and watch it happen"
If his rods and repairs cut corners on build quality then it is he w

Hi All
Just recently managed to grab an old Sage 890 RPL blank and was wondering if anyone out there could help me with the guide spacings from an old factory rod,if anyone still has one.
I have emailed Sage with this request but thought posting on here might be quicker than waiting for my reply from Sage.
Thanks in advance.
