Hi All
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to which mini lathe to buy and what to look for in one.I am in the UK and so far i am struggling with all of the different models/makes etc. Most of the time i will be doing cork handles and reel seat inserts . Thanks in Advance Bryan Re: Lathe for woodturning and cork handles.

I went for the Mini Jet. Got mine from Axminster [www.axminster.co.uk] They ship really quick and have all the chucks etc to fit it. So far Ive got a 4 jaw and collet chuck. I went for the extension bed as well as it opens up your options and gives you more room to work. It seems to be a good little sturdy machine. I have several Jet tools and like them very much. When I bought a lathe I decided on the Rikon. The bed is a little longer and the swing is larger. They are about the same price and you can't go wrong with either one IMO. Re: Lathe for woodturning and cork handles.

Byron I agree the Jet mini is a nice little lathe the only thing is to check on what is offered during sales, the nice part is the various chucks and extended bed are easy to come by. Axminster has a very good reputation

Not sure if the Turn Crafter Pro is available in the UK but it's been great for me.
Also, if you are space constrained, check out the midi lathes that have around 17" between centers. This has allowed me enough space to turn long cork grips for spey and salmon rods without needing the bed extension. Lot's of choices though. Make sure you get a quality 4-jaw chuck and good lathe tools if you are planning on turning wood inserts. Terry Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
