You know, Bill, I've always been taught exactly what you said, "The thread holds the guides on and not the finish." It boggles my mind as to why the guides don't fall off of the rod easily. Is it the bond between the finish and the thread?

Are you the one-part requires no mixing?
That would be great.

276. Re: Fish Eye?
Thanks All. Check out Tom's link for fish eyes. After seeing it I realized I didn't have fish eyes, I just did a bad job. I just flat out missed some spots. I decided I'm only going to apply finish during the daylight. I removed the butt wrap and refinished it and now it looks fine. This is the third time I re-wrapped and refinished. I took the advice that the job I'm doing is representing my wo

278. water/finish
Would a drip of water or two, accidentally dropped into mixed finish, ruin that batch? I mixed a batch, poured it on aluminum foil and then accidentally had a drop of water hit the middle of it. I threw it all away and mixed another batch. Was that necessary?

279. Fish Eye?
Is there a place I can see a photo of a fish eye? I'm not sure what one is.

I'll give it a try. I've been putting on a heavy first coat.
Thanks

I have all kinds of trouble getting a level finish on butt wraps, too. I've been placing my finish on while the rod is turning on a 4 MPH motor. I've been using a brush, but have been hesitant to brush on the finish because of introducing air bubbles. I've also tried to finish the butt while rotating by hand.
I thought if you actually brushed on the finish it would create bubbles.

282. Re: Spot Finish?
Hi Jim. I can see clearly they are just places I missed with the second coat of finish. I haven't repaired it yet. I want to make sure it sets up so I don't make a bigger mess. If it happens on the third coat I'll let you know. I really hope they're not fish eyes.
Thanks,
Bruce

OK. Thanks. I understand. I'll just put on a thin coat of finish.

284. Re: Spot Finish?
Thanks. I guess the easiest way to fix it is to put a thin coat of finish on the wrap. Just wondering if there was a quick fix, but I guess a thin coat of finish is easy enough, too. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

285. Spot Finish?
I put the second and final coat of finish on guide wraps. I discovered I missed 2 spots, about the size of the "O" in the word photo (above) or a little larger. Is there a way to put finish on just those spots without redoing the entire wrap? I have them looking the way I like and I don't want to mess them up with another coat of finish. I need better lighting above my table.

287. Re: Removing bubbles
Thanks again for all of your help. When today rolled around it wasn't as bad as I thought. I used a razor blade, removed several bubbles and put a thin coat of finish to it. It appears to be just fine now. Not a masterpiece, but not a disaster either. I used TM Lite. I think I may have made the bubbles by picking up my brush and putting it back down instead of using one, straight drag across the

288. Removing bubbles
I developed some bubbles in my finish. I used a brush and tried not to brush the finish on, but only sort of pour it and spread it over the wrap. Anyway, I tried sanding bubbles off one time on another build and it just made things worse. The bubbles were gone, but the residue stuck to the finish. I could use some guidance.
Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks, guys. I'll take all of your advice. Bill I'm going to keep a better record of my orders. Buzz, I'll be fishing Saturday and Sunday. Tom, it was silly to make such a request. LOL! I was @#$%& because I had to redo some guides and then I ran out of thread. I wasn't thinking straight when I made the post.
The Best to you all,
Bruce

I placed an order with one of our sponsors for VLDG spinning rod guides and some thread, but I can't remember who it is, and I can't find a receipt. I ran out of PacBay Evergreen C Stay True thread and I haven't finished the rod. I'd like to place another order. Would you please be so kind as to check your computer files for me?
Thanks

295. Do Over
I finished some guides and I see 2 that need done over again. Is the finish easier to remove if I allow it to harden or should I remove it immediately? It has dried for about 12 hours.

Gees, Bill, I thought I posed a legitimate concern. I've never built a rod in the summer. This is one of the few places I can turn to for help.

Well, guys, I've been following this discussion and now I'm confused as to whether I should try and finish my rod. The outside temps will probably be in the low 80s. I can get the inside air temp down into the 70s with a small air conditioner I have in my kitchen window. Should I go ahead and finish?
