I finished some guides and I see 2 that need done over again. Is the finish easier to remove if I allow it to harden or should I remove it immediately? It has dried for about 12 hours. Re: Do Over

I would say get it now since it is still soft and would be alot easier to remove. Re: Do Over

It takes about 2-5 days for it to cure very hard. You should be able to warm it with a hair dryer, slice the thread on the guide foot, slicing towards the guide. Then peel off the epoxy. You can warm, then scrape the remainder off with your thumbnail. Gabe - if you are getting your epoxy smoking hot I'm afraid you may have you ruined the blank. thats what i was saying. dont apply too much heat that it will smoke and burn the blank. if you use a lighter it makes smoke no matter what even if its not heated that much. if you use a hair dryer you wont have smoke though. good luck. Re: Do Over

Chuck,
You can use any source of heat that you want to use to soften epoxy finish. As the other posts have suggested, just don't overdo it. If you like you can use an OXY torch to heat the finish. Just use it with a very delicate touch and don't overheat it. Roger p.s. Certainly the heat from a hair dryer, or heated blow gun is much easier to control than most flame sources. Re: Do Over

Well heck yes. You can use black powder if you want. What we don't want to do is be telling the GP to use a lighter to melt the finish off the rod so they can redo a guide.
You only need to warm the finish to soften it. This is so over talked about on this forum. I'm going home now to get my sarcasm... _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Re: Do Over

You won't believe it. I removed the thread and finish just fine but I ran out of thread. Gees. Re: Do Over

Chuck,,
When you mention the use of black powder; is this the type powder that smokes or is smoke free. If it is the type that smokes, it might be a bit tough to see the blank, once you touch it off. Just be safe - no matter the issue and always have fun. Roger Re: Do Over

Bruce - I just checked and I have a spool of Green C and Spring Green C in the Pac Bay Stay True. No evergreen, or I would have sent it to you.

Chuck. Thanks for the offer, but I placed an order since I also needed some finishing products. I do appreciate the offer. It is very kind of you.
