From my experience, the uncoated style, if not finished relatively smooth, can become uncomfortable if you are fishing it all day. I've heard the same from several tournament fishermen as well.

Bill Stevens supplied a lot of this same type information when CastAway first unveiled the guide 2 years ago. There were even similar photos, etc.
Do a search. You will find much. All of it is still on the board and in the photo pages.

Hey Bill - electronic ones found the fish at Douglas... Kigan ones held the line that put the right ones in the boat.

I use the same thing bill mentioned. Other benefits include when you spill finish, glue, etc - you can use a scraper blade and pop it all off formica. You aren't going to do that with plywood.
When I first built my bench, I placed a premade 8' piece over two cabinet bases. Super easy, looked great, gave storage space and I had little time involved.

There are a lot of techniques that are very effective for bass - that are employed in other styles of fishing. Cowgirls, Pencils, Needles, Teasers (daisy chain), etc - none have rods out there designed for it. A saavy rodbuilder can create a need in his area by finding a new technique and then offering a rod just for that.

SiC is great... especially in very high temperatures - all the way up to 1400 C. If you need something that's going into a really hot environment - SiC is your choice. Zirconia ceramics have the highest strength and toughness at room temperature of all engineered ceramics though. Zirconia was actually the first ceramic able to be used for scissors and knives - evidenced in those great Fuji Zircon

Is that a prediction or foreshadowing? Don't let a kitty out of the bag until it's ready!
Maybe some of the ones who know some of this in and out will chime in. Good discussion we haven't had in a long time.

I agree. In this case the two blanks are not the same, but if the heavier transmits vibrations more effectively, what's different about it that causes the increased vibration transmission?
Not saying it isn't possible, just asking for an explanation on how it's achieved.

That's pretty subjective. Sensitivity is a very hard claim to make.
Typically the lighter blank will have the sensitvity edge. What would make the heavier rod more sensitive in this case?

Very true Russ. You can bet though I can tell you about the blanks I am building on and what I know they can handle though (although I may not tell everyone that info!)
But man... when that thing lets go... look out!
Check this... that blank has no fiberglass scrim. Enjoy. :)

That's why I asked the type of seat. To me "Jig Stick" is a bass rod and most likely has an exposed blank seat. Then again, it may be a saltwater jigging rod. Need more info.

I want to see both of you do that with an exposed blank seat.

Grips of identical dimensions:
EVA: 13.8g
Cork: 14.2g
Carbon Skin: 16.6g
I swithced to a different epoxy to wet out the carbon and seeing some weight reduction. Haven't done enough grips with it yet to nail down how much weight savings.

That rod/reel isn;t going to show very well once you get it to the size needed to go on a rod. You're looking at a big image - think what it will look like 1- 1.5" wide...

Roger - please describe your process for deep flexing and how you asses the normal flex parameter for each model. No set up here - just wondering how

Andrew... take Bill up on his offer. You might be surprised who could come through the door or call while you are there.
I agree with Tom. Try a little more tension on the whole wrap - not just the last 5 or 6 wraps.

To really know which is "better", you'd need to know the additives used in the ceramic to get a good idea of it's properties. Since I'm guessing that is proprietary with Nanolite you're going to be hard pressed to find out the answer.
Also there may be differences in the "Zirconia" among different companies.
ZrO2 - Zirconium Dioxide - has some outstanding basic character
