Had to redo post. Got deleted... guess I needed my entire last name. This is my first complete butt wrap. Been learning this for about 2 weeks and already addicted, been doing guides until now. The picture stinks but I tried to combine the images so you could see the light reflecting in the thread on the second. I got a little off the center axis and really need to work on the end wraps. Any s

Deadlift 15# on a new prototype blank with 100% carbon construction for baits around 1oz. Blank didn't fail until 18.5#. Blank looks thick because there is a shadow cast from the camera flash. Blank has about a .5" butt and 6 tip. Standard freshwater rod.

You are responsible for FET. You are remanufacturing the guide by adding the anodized coating. Bait makers have the same issue. If they purchase an unpainted head and paint it, it's a new product and is liable for FET.

We get 1000s of kigan guides in every month. One bag usually has 500 or so of a given size in same bag. In 8+ years, I literally have only seen one ring fall out of a guide on its own. I have NEVER seen a chipped ring from the factory. Once on a rod, every guide I have seen from someone claiming "bad guides" has had damage. A chipped ceramic doesn't happen without some type of impac

Take a look at the Big Gulp Dust Hood by Peachtree Woodworking. They are on Amazon for about $20 and work really well. On our drill press, we made a bracket to hold the hood in line with the grip and reamer. Does a good job collecting the airborn dust. We have a separate air cleaner and other than normal particulate, it stays pretty clean and never has cork in it. That set up with the big hoo

Yes it will cut down on dust and gives a very nice, clean cut. I agree... unless you are cutting a lot of blanks... an abrasive wheel is probably ok. A diamond wheel on a dremel tool works very nicely too.

Some of you know, some don't - HYDRA has kind of taken a backseat to ALX Rods over the past few years. Today, we launched a brand new website with new products and better shipping rates! We'll continue expanding this over the next few months. Our OS and NG series rod blanks are incredible. Our NG stock is light because of the large demand for finished rods and we are working to increase th

Bill Stevens was one of the most colorful, articulate, opinionated people I loved in rod building. There was no kinda like or kinda dislike. You either loved Bill or he drove you bonkers. Phone calls could last hours and stories, well you weren't really sure if they were exactly true, embellished or what and then most of time you'd find out they were 95% true. He taught, shared, included and want

I feel lucky to have learned how to build rods when everything came from small suppliers. My knowledge was accelerated from these people. I built relationships with them and learned different ways to do things. In turn, they profited from that. Bob McKamey at Custom Tackle really comes to mind. He always had the time to talk and lots to share. I have no idea how big or small the shop was or if it

Don - Call and ask for your local IRS field agent that specializes in excise tax. He will be the most helpful. Some of the information listed here doesn't exactly follow what our agent says. I prefer to listen to the guy who audits us. Alex

Doesn't sound like a warranty issue to me. Sounds like he attempted to use the rod to free the snag and broke it in the process. That's user error - not warranty.

Bobby was a wonderful guy and certainly looked at rodbuilding a little differently and challenged conventional thought in many areas. He opened my eyes to a lot of ideas. I will always remember him fondly. Heaven has one heck of a fisherman and rodbuilder in the ranks now. Thanks Lance.

The type of knot you tie + your proficiency in tying that knot + the length of leader will have a combined effect and help dictate the size guide you are best suited to. After that add in personal preference and you have your answer. I routinely use 30# braid and 15# fluoro and have little trouble casting with #4s. 3s are a little too small for me period. Just don't like them. I usually h

Wrong assumption. Falcon Rods, and the blanks they use. are made in the USA as advertised. They are not available to the public. For some reason

Bob - CC is a coating on stainless. No it's not Ti, but it offers increased protection. One item of note - I see more issues with hookkeeper corrosion due to dissimilar metals as opposed to salt related corrosion. Even titanium alloys are subject to galvanic corrosion. Very apparent when hooks are left in keepers long term - regardless of hookkeeper brand.

Roger - Your logic can easily be applied to using micro guides and/or standard guides. So why pigeonhole the question into a micro only discussion? Sounds like a general guide spacing and # of guide discussion.

The CC finish is designed for saltwater use. Titanium coming.

Roger - No need to answer really. All this has been discussed in depth. Line doesn't have to rub. Spinning rods are great with micros just like casting rods with them. Fewer guides is great, but the concern is impact on the rod flex. Again, that's been discussed in depth. The only difference I see now compared to 2/3 years ago is there is a whole host of offerings that address guide height
