5671. Re: Float Rod Blank
Lots of those in the salmon/steelhead part of the sponsors catalogs. Also you could use a spey blank also. You didn't tell us your requirements so you'll have to pick.

5672. Re: Titan guides
Like Bill said, I don't know where the myths start but I've seen all the titanium guides break. I used to change out the REC guides all the time from people showing their buddies their indestructible guides. The really bad part was it usually happened along their favorite non-local stream. One guy was packing a spinning travel rod for a trip so he bent the guides back to fit in a travel tube that

Never tried Am Tacks, but all the others I've used worked very well structurally, my problem was I never seem to leave with the right setup or none at all when I got to the river. Thought about putting another small pouch in my rod bags for the extensions, but never did. Also it makes you maybe have to get a longer or custom tube for the long butt, iff left on. Now I just put on a permanent butt.

Rich,
Chill a bit and tell us where you got it, discription, so we can figure out what you got. The button goes on the end of the threaded piece, the threaded piece goes on the long side of the insert, the short side gets the collar looking thing. If the collar has a stepped area in it than it fit s inside a recess in the cork grip. If it's just a big flat collar than it just goes against the gr

FishSticks4U has 8 inch hump grips, you can always add a few cork rings in the middle somewhere to get what you want.

The Batson RX8+ 905-4 are pretty close power/action to the Z -Axis. Got to use one of the Sages in Alaska for rainbows, char, and grayling this summer, just a bit off the TCR in the tip.
Others can probably be found on the CC Data site to the left, maybe a 902-4 or 903-4 Dan Craft FT.

You could use a LED and a phototransistor in a simple DC circuit. Everytime the rod breaks the light a multimeter could read it and give you a number.

5678. Re: Blank manufacturers
All Star just sells rods. They built some blanks for Pac Bay and Batson at one time besides their own line. G Loomis and Lamiglas has built blanks and rods for other companies from time to time.

Karry brought up an excellent maneuver that I see few of the newer anglers using while drift or float fishing, mending the line. This little trick works as great here as it does flyfishing. Let's me fish over more varied conditions without re-rigging. Especially in drift fishing, it lets me work more of a hole without weight changes and possible hangups fine tuning the setup.

Some people here have posted pics of texillium that has peeled back. Grant Darby had some peel off just from applying/removing tape.

I've used graphite grips on everything inclding heavy salmon rods and a few 9 ft Rogue saltwater blanks similar in power to a heavy backbouncer blank with no issues so far. Some have had Texillium finish/foil/color problems, I've only used it on one ML freshwater rod and so far no problems.

Mo,
While living in Florida I had a 5 1/2 ft Lamiglas IM700 8 to 17 lb tennessee cork grip rod that I had installed a 1/2 oz jig and large SW reel and used to throw back into following fish or a fish that gave a refusal on the first rod. Never had a problem with the grip bringing in some pretty large Dorados, etc. The reel was held on with electrical tape.

Richard,
On graphite rods I first start with the guide misaligned about 90 degrees bring the two parts together, than push lightly together as you rotate the guides into alignment. That's what they probably meant by ferrule coming loose is not installed correctly. Force things to tightly together and they won't come apart easily and can damage the blank.

I fish mostly marabou jigs or jig/spawn sack combos and at the tailout or end of the drift on big runs I just swing the float over to my side of the river before retrieving. Same thing the drift bait fisherman do or the fly anglers with a wet fly drift.
Steelhead no matter what presentation you use will many times set back with the river current as your gear approaches and when the bottom depth

Tim,
I use a 10 ft 6 in casting float rod all the time. I use a superline to help as it floats. All this hooey about absolutely having to have all the line off the water I think is overrated a little as I pick up way to many fish on the swing of the float to my side of the river just as the water depth gets to their discomfort zone and they have to decide what to do.
You also see a bunch of Can

All the specs are in each company's catalog. Mudhole has a huge data base on their site. Angler's Workshop's and Mudhole's catalogs are invaluable to me for looking up stuff. Sites like stripesonline.com and others like the one's on saltwater fishing magazine sites can really be a help also, lots of people willing to share any info about specific rods or characteristics for different fish or pres

Keith,
Have you went to www.fujitackle.com and found the page there listed "evolution of guides"? It shows the different guides and when they were developed, including the ones you looking for. Looks like Merrick carries the folding guides on Pg 137 of their catalog, lower left side, the BPWFL series.

Harold,
You probably noticed that your FT has quite a bit reserve power built into it, you'll get ther same with the 8 wt. The XF 908 will be built more conventionally powerwise.

Haven't fished permit in a while, but if I remember right crab fishing was a light 1/8-1/4 oz weight and a small crab quietly thrown at least 25 ft in front of a working permit. A lighter tip than a IC847 may be better. Andy at Lamar Fishing lives saltwater fishing. CTS also has the saltwater fishing nailed.

Richard,
While your waiting for someone out east to pop up, try the search function with the species of each fish for prior post information on blanks, etc.
There is a bunch of info there.

If 7 ft rods are ok, look at the 3 piece travel blanks in the bass section of the Rainshadow/Forecast catalog to the left. Also the travel series Lamiglas blanks. Lamar Fishing could probably suggest a 3 piece CTS blank in the specifics you need. Then there is the Sage SP 470-3 and 570-3 blanks.
