Gidday Lads,
In Australia, we have a fish called a Luderick which is caught using a float and a 12 foot long rod. I am looking for a blank to suit this type of fishing. I love Loomis blanks but alas, they do not have one which suits my requirements. I am lookuing for the following attributes: 1. 11'6" - 13' in length 2. Moderate action 3. Light weight 4. Black or grey in colour Anyone got any suggestions? Money is not really an issue. Thanks Chris Re: Float Rod Blank

Lots of those in the salmon/steelhead part of the sponsors catalogs. Also you could use a spey blank also. You didn't tell us your requirements so you'll have to pick. Re: Float Rod Blank

Try the Rainshadow line by Batson Ent. I use them for Salmon Steelhead float rods and love them. Then come in the black/grey you are looking for. Re: Float Rod Blank

Chris,
As a floatrod builder, I have to ask: What type of fish do you intend to fish for the most? Will you be using a Centerpin reel? Do you want to exceute long drifts? LIke 150' plus? Is a multi-piece rod important? The Rainshadow 13 foot, 10# rod is a FANTASTIC rod for the $$. I have built many of these and customers love them as myself. Paul Re: Float Rod Blank

Paul,
The fish I intend to target with this rod are Luderick and Surgeonfish. They frequent wharves, wrecks, breakwalls and other structure. The drop is normally 9-15 feet depending on location. The drift at its longest would be 30 feet. For me, two piece is fine and I would prefer two piece. I wil also be using a threadline reel as I get myself into all sorts of trouble with centrepins and I don't really like them. The surgeon will pull very hard (bit like a Kingfish) and the drag of the threadline is important in these situations. I need the rod to be soft in the tip however, a little gutts is required in the butt to keep the fish away from structure. Also, large guides will be used so the float stopper can pass through the tip and runners. That Rainshadow seems ideal. Cheers Chris Re: Float Rod Blank
