It ia a Graphite Blank INSTALLING THE FERRULE!!!!! is there any special way i need to install the ferrule??? I have read if it isn't done right the rod will continioually come apart when casting. I really apreciate your help. Richard Fleming Re: installing a ferrule in a Fly Rod

with graphite rods they should be correct from the factory... can't really modify em much at all. all you should need to do is wrap the female end of the ferrule (assuming its tip-over-butt construction) or the female and male end if its a spigot type construction..... then there are some CTS blanks that claim that they don't need wrapping on the female end......

The ferrules are built into the blank - there is nothing to install.
You will simply make a ferrule reinforcement wrap on the female ferrule end, starting very close to the edge and wrapping back about a half inch or so. Make the thread tension on this wrap just a little more snug than what you use on your guide wraps. ................. Re: installing a ferrule in a Fly Rod

Richard,
On graphite rods I first start with the guide misaligned about 90 degrees bring the two parts together, than push lightly together as you rotate the guides into alignment. That's what they probably meant by ferrule coming loose is not installed correctly. Force things to tightly together and they won't come apart easily and can damage the blank. i'm curious richard, where are you reading about installing ferrules? the only installation of ferrules i'm aware of is in the creation of a bamboo rod.

Most likely he meant to say the "assembly" or "joining" of the ferrules. To a beginning rod builder I can see where one might assume it has to do with installing something on the rod itself.
They do have to be joined with a bit of a twisting motion as Spencer pointed out. That tends to keep them from coming apart during casting and fishing. .......... Re: installing a ferrule in a Fly Rod

I don't see anything there about "installing" a ferrule.
