1021. Most common damage?
I am just starting to sell quite a few rods, and am wondering what everyone sees as the most common repair/warranty work you have to do?
Also, at what point do you not do warranty work and tell the customer it was abuse or misuse that caused the damage?
Thanks,
Marc

1022. Re: Carp Rod (not Chris)
Pac Bay has a series of Carp Blanks. They are the European type long 2 pc., but any longer spinning blank would do, 8' or longer, med-lite to med-heavy. I would ask what pound line the person wants to use and build accordingly.
Hope this helps,
Marc

1024. Sevier spinning guides
Tried to piggy back this on a different post, but no response. Has anyone used the Sevier spinning guides, either SiC or Hard aluminum oxide?
Thanks,

Just ordered some Tiger Eye spinning blanks from Sevier. Was wondering if anyone has any favorite thread colors that go with this blank. Also, has anyone used theri spinning guides much?
Thanks,
Marc

Exactly what I am thinking Chris. This might help for me too, as my brother usually eats my lunch before I get to it when we go fishin', so maybe he'll chew his grip instead!

1028. Vegetable oil on cork?
I turned a burl cork handle a month ago, rubbed it with regulard vegetable oil (canola I think), and it looked great. I buffed it dry, and it doesen't feel slick. It still looks great a month later. When I run it uder water it doesen't get slippery. This seems to work great, as long a you buff it pretty dry after application
Anyone else done this, and could the oil hurt the cork or glue lo

1030. Is Fuji a Board Sponsor?
Just wondering - I see a lot of people using Fuji, but don't see them listed as a sponsor. Are they under a different name?

Thanks for the reminder Billy, I forgot to mention type of fishing. 100% freshwater, lite to medium spinning applications, Bass, Walleye, Trout, Panfish.
Thanks everyone for you thoughts on this.

Sorry for the type-o on the last post. Meant to ask if anyone has WORN OUT HIalloys or Hardloys.
Thanks,

Aside from being "percieved better", or excessive abuse, has anyone really worn our Hialloys or Hardloys?

Just wondering what everyone thinks. Are SiC or TiCH/TiGold, or even Alconite guides worth the extra money. I don't think I have ever seen Hialloy or Hardloy's actually wear out.

Hi Jim,
I guess my real concern wasn't the ferrule itself, but the stress point 3"-4" ahead of it where it tapers back into the blank. ( I wouldn't normally be conerned, but my only build on an RX7 two pc. snapped 3" ahead of the ferrule).
Thanks,
Marc

Has anyone built on the RX7 2pc. spinning blanks? My main concern is strength of the ferrule section. I know their one pc. stuff is great, but the blank weights look pretty light for two pc. models.
Thanks,
Marc

1037. New Pac Bay rod glue
Tried the new Pac Bay rod glue for the first time - neat stuff. It is not as thick as Rod Bond, but way thicker than most liquids. It stays in place and doesen't run all over, but if you need to move it a little, like when sliding on reel seats, it does flow a little. Just like to share new stuff.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Anyone know of a good place to buy cork rings in bulk (by the 1000), at a decent price? Must be decent quality cork, but not looking for CG1 stuff either.
Thanks,
Marc

Tried some of the Pac Bay rod finish, it was great. Seemed to have fewer bubbles, and the ones that were there came out easy, very reasonably priced.
Also have been using the new Pac Bay thread - nice stuff - some little different colors. Custom Tackle has the thread in stock.

1041. Re: blank suggestion
Might want to check out Pac Bay's T-2 series. They have a 2 pc. that is close to what you are looking for, as well as one pc. in the Spin/Jig series. You can also get the same blanks in a green color in their RF2 series. These are becoming one of my favorites. Very light, and seem to be more durable than some others. Versitex has a good selection.

1042. Re: Waterslide Decals
Where did you buy Putter's DVD on waterslides? I'd like to order a copy.
Thanks,

I just used my first decals from Decal Connection, some peel-n-stick, and they turned out great and were easy to use. You can see a slight edge of the clear decal material if you really look.
Are waterslides really better, and how difficult are they?
Thanks,
Marc

1046. spatula for finish
I see a lot of talk about applying finish with a spatula. I have not seen a tool like this in any rod building catalogs. What exactly do you use?
Also, does it really help keep bubbles down?
Thanks,
Marc

1047. Re: new builder
I have found all the sponsors here to be great help, particularly Custom Tackle, Jann's Netcraft, and
Schneider's. There are some great DVD's/videos to help you get started too.
Have fun!

1048. Re: Fish Decals
If you wouldn't mind, could you describe a little more detailed, how you inlaid the decal - or if you have any pic's would be great!

1049. Fish Decals
There are some really nice fish decals out. One problem is that they don't look good on small-to-mid size blanks. Has anyone tried laying these on cork and sealing somehow? I realize this is not overly creative, but I have some customers that really like the decals.
Thanks,
Marc

I agree with what you are saying. I don't like anything smaller than 8's for a spinning rod of this weight. You don't need all those different guide sizes. You could just buy a couple 8's to replace the 7 & 6 without buying all new guides. As far as the rear grip, I would start with a 9" length on a rod like this.
Good Luck,
Marc
