I want to do my first elongated close wrap on a small diameter blank. The butt measurement is 31mm, center 30mm, tip 29mm. Since there is very little taper would you use the taper offset spacing or would you start with 30mm at the butt and increase by 1 or 2 mm at each cross over?
Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC Re: Closed Wrap

If it was me, I'd use the diameter at the center of the wrap for all the crosses. I almost always use this method, unless there is a significant taper. I find by packing and burnishing, I can get the patterns to close without having to overlap thread. Not sure what you're fishing for, but 30 mm doesn't sound like a small diameter blank to me though? I use VisualWrap for all my spacing, so it takes 2 minutes to get teh taper offset spacing. FOr those specs, it probably wo't be too big of a deal to use a consistant spacing, esepcailly isnce you are elongating it. BU tif you end up with the wrap closing on the tip and open on the bottom, at least you'll know why Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
