I am in the process of wrapping my third butt wrap. first 2 where diamond wrap and i did 5 in long open wrap. I would like to do a closed wrap this time on a IP844. Wondering what length wrap most people wrap on a rod this size? I have marked off 150mm for now with butt diameter of 35mm, center 32mm, tip 30mm. Opinion on some patterns if i keep the measurements as is. I was leaning to a fish wrap.

I don't really use a set length. I just finished a firebird wrap on a 6' 6" casting rod and the decorative part of the wrap (minus the hook keeper area) is 155mm. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: Butt wrap length.

Alot of it depends on your wrapping abilities and the taper that is on the rod. If there is a really strong taper it might be hard to do a longer wrap. I just did a fish wrap on a ISB 822.5 that was 11 1/2" long. My first fish wrap was only 5" long. Re: Butt wrap length.

WRap length is your choice. I usually make them 175-225mm, but have done a few as short as 125mm, and as long as 350mm. PAttern - you can do anythign on any sizeblank, depends on your skill. A Spider, St john's Cross, IronCross - will all be fine on that size blank. FIsh wraps is fine too - it's entirely up to you. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
