61. Pricing
If you are not sure about what you charge give it three months then when you fill out your taxes it will start to open your eyes. Those times when you do a simple repair and charge a little over your price add up. Even if you do this "just for fun" you still have to account for shipping, gas, postal fees and a few others. Having a reputation for being " cheap " isn't a good th

You might want ot check the closeout part of some of the site sponsors. I've found deals on several of the old type guides that are great to have around for repairs.

65. Great Show
I can't say how great it is to see friends again and make some new ones. I had the opportunity to talk with several guys from California that were a blast. They saved my perception of that part of the USA. I'm sure there will be many more posts but on behalf of Mickel's Custom Rods thanks to everyone and for those still traveling have a safe journey.

66. Busy day
You would think opening at 8 am would spread things out a little but it didn't. At about 8:03 the heard came in at least four wide and quickly spread through the hall. I kept a informal poll on the seminars since I don't get out of the booth to catch any and everyone was pleased across the board with them. Th efloor stayed open till 7 tonight and of course people were buying at the last minute.

Any vendors or manufactures that have scrap or over run fiberglass blanks please bring them to the show and let me know I have been looking to replenish my repair stock and will be glad to pay a fair price.

68. mixing epoxy
Among other things that I have put off over time has been a epoxy mixer. Again this is another thing that I shouldn't have overlooked. I don't worry about bubbles now unless I'm just doing quick repairs and hand mixing. I would recommend using one if you want to get around those tiny little bubbles that drive you nuts.

Lexington BBQ is king of the hill and just happens to be on the a hill right off of I 85 southbound. It's probably 20 to 25 minutes from the Show place and stays opens till around 9 p.m. saturday night. We have about 7 others in town but for best all around including tea, slaw and hush puppies Lexington BBQ is very hard to beat. Some of our guys have ventured into brisket but it hasn't caught on

Look out boys we have two "fine southern gentlemen" parsing words. Next thing you know they'll be lobbing casting plugs at each other at the show.

75. A CUI gem
I'm sure many people didn't realize but CUI has a few fly blanks in their catalog. Today I had the opportunity to test one out and I can say I was impressed. It was the 7' 6" model and was very light and crisp and casted with ease. They may not have as many models as other companies but I would suggest that you give them a shot.

Maybe they will show his "PC" in the new line of Microsoft commercials at the bottom of a swamp. I wonder if it had the juice to give the "Fatal Error" message.

I use a method like Toms but I use Briwax insted. If you find yourself getting nicks and heavy scratches on the bed Klingpor sells a sandflex hand block that fits in the valley of the lathe bed and you can clean/ brighten it up in no time.

I picked up some the other week to use on repairs when I needed to clean the grips up a bit. It works well and is maybe a hair darker than what the mfg's use when they fill in their stuff.

JP, thanks for hosting the event and it was great to see the guys again and discuss rods and many other things. Bill thanks for the pizza, even though it had no shrimp on it I believe you and Lance would've enjoyed it as much as we did. Also thanks to Robbie for the thread.

I've been uising the USPS for some time now because things tend to get where they are supposed to without being damaged. I sent 2 rods in a 3" pvc tube around 6' 8" long with insurance and tracking for $22.65. They may have rates of increase but at least you know about them before you go to send something. The other guys can change all they want and not have it "advertised on the

All I can say is I have a 4 year old can that hasn't failed yet. I lost a bottle a long time ago and had even used the ball bearings the can is simple and it works. One other thing it doesn't get knocked over as easily as a bottle.

After a little time I'm sure Tom will get a better feel on things. I've allways understood that he wanted a low gate fee so people could spend their money with the vendors. I doubt a buck or two will break any of the usual attendees but I think he's also aiming to "grow" custom rod building by atracting curious people. Lets face it when a person that has a interest in rodbuilding then h

88. The aftermath
First off I'd like to thank Tom and his staff for another incredible weekend at the show!! The attendees and other vendors were absolutely great, seeing some familar faces and new ones to. Being a local guy I'm able to get home a little quicker and start soaking in just how much was going on. As vendors we don't get to see the seminars but everyone I asked was pleased will the line up and the pre
