The guy might be high sticking. I've repaired tips as close as 5" down for bass guys that are extremely rough on their stuff. The repair may have been to long for that area though. Did you cut out the crushed fibers?

I won't boor you with the details but needless to say I made another customer happy with some of the tips and ideas that have come thru Rod Maker Magazine for so long and some still yet to come.
While I'm at it I also need to thank the sponsors of this board that have been available on short notice to make things happen.

Look into the steel head blanks. They will give you the back bone to cast 2 oz. weights plus the bait rig and still be able to detect bites and keep the weight down.

34. Re: spin/fly rod
you'll be surprised how well it will cast a fly line when the guides are set up for spinning.

After finishing up some work in short order I realized just how grateful I am for two of the best tools that had come from the pages of Rod Maker. First was the article on templates, or scrolls as I like to call them, for record keeping and rod layout and second the motorized mixer. There are a wealth of things that have come thru the pages but these are used almost daily in my shop.

37. Re: Liquiglass
Thanks for your comments Sam. Everyone that has tried it loves it and as the bottle says "Stays Clear Forever".
I also wanted to mention that this should not be confused with "LiquiDglass" which is a commercially available bartop coating, but what I sell is called LiquiGlass and is an exterior epoxy coating.

I thought it was great, on the first morning people had to come our way to see what was going on and that put them in my booth buying stuff. Later some would come by and complain but again it put them in the booth buying stuff. My only regret is they didn't follow up on Sunday.

Not to be out done I will be the exclusive dealer for the BEST new finish on the market. Liquiglass, "clear as glass forever", some lucky people out there have had the chance to test it and it has amazed them. Be sure to stop by the Mickels's Custom Rods booth and get your kit first thing before they are gone.

It sounds like agreat get together I only have one concern. Knowing many of the Nerbs and all due respect maybe you should call it the SERBS.

They've succesfully re-marketed an age old style of fishing. I did call and inquire a few things but they are dead set on using the fly shops to get their stuff out. I've seen some other possibilites though. I do like the idea of having one but I'm not dropping any of my 6'6" 3wts.

To each his own but any time you introduce something in and out of a cooler / freezer you will be introducing moisture into the equation. That alone would keep me from that practice. If you are seeking a long pot life then try some of the U40 products.

Bill, to be honest the largest majority of the Bubba Bass guys around here have no idea of the difference between rod actions or purpose. Thank God they at least changed colors for the boys, now all they can say is "I want one of 'em 'nanner rods, you know the yellar ones."
I bet I've got em stired up now.

I've been around "one fly Tom" for quite some time now and witnessed the times that one rod has outfished everyone else around. It reminds me alot of the ESPN show " Beat Charlie Moore " , as far as equipment goes, you'll see Charlie using a Spinning rod for more than 90% of the time reguardless of the species or bait/ lure and he outfishes the other guys constantly.

I've had mine for about two years now and have had no problems. It would make a great first lathe.

I have witnessed on all knids of days a fly rod whip a spinning rod fished out of a kayak. Go have fun and fish the fly rod as mush as you want. A basket may be nice but it's just something else to get in the way.

I believe Tom could put you onto a guy that sells the cans as a kit.

Was it the same truck, with same tires and weight? Was it rolled on in the same manner? I'm with John I certainly hope a fish doesn't run over it, but Sponge Bob shouldn't cause to big of a deal.

It's like asking for gold, or so it seems. I've called many people and offered to pay a fair price for some scrap. If you have to spend time scrounging trash cans then stripping off guides and other junk that ends up on scrap like duct tape you are going in a hole. I do have to say that one fellow builder was willing to part with some but that was the only time.
