The first 2 blanks I built on were G Loomis and St.Croix. It wasn't that I had a lot of cash floating around but that I wanted something with a good feel. With the advice I received from Tom to read and study from good sources of information helped alot. I'm not saying the wraps were perfect or that you couldn't find a small glue line but as far as construction they are sound. In fact I have fi

I'm with Tom, $100 minimum. The longer you do it the more you start to see just squirling away a few bucks is nice but you have to carry parts and order suplies and you don't want that cost on a credit card acruing intrest against you.

We do it to take it from something simple, a stick, line and hook, to a higher level. Trouble is we forget some people a born with lucky horse shoes . Of course we could break down and trade turkey recipies.

If you want to please the purist go with outdated snake guides and chestnut or burgundy color threads with no cp. If you want a good reaction get Billy to suggest a pattern and then let him make a eva grip with some wicked inlay. I'm sure a few guys will get chocked up over that.

I'm hoping the Knife guys will bite. I was actually part of thier group for a while and then rodbuilding took over my time. The group is actually very diverse and just a good group of nuts. At the shows they held you had 4 of the biggest supliers showing up along with the major mfg's of belt grinders and there was allways 2 guys there with a abundance of exotic woods. One of my close friends that

I've got two left from the National Rod Builders Show. It breaks down into 3 pcs. and assembles to just over 6', Fuji reel seat and alconite guides. I rate it as a light spinning and a 5wt , it's no wimp when it come to a 5wt. either you can shoot a good bit of line for the length of rod it is. Let me know if your interested.

Thanks Ralph, I have been letting it at least get "tacky" to the point it has almost stopped dripping, but you are right on the money. Glad to see you posting, I hope you a good trip back.

Let a little leak out and then lean it back. When you do it like that you aren't as prone to loose as much, the other suggestion would be to fill it on a humid day if possible. That will help it set up faster. If anyone is still interest in a can drop me a email.

147. Rodmaker - new issue
Got in this evening to find the latest issue in my box. After stumbling inside and pulling back the cover sheet, BAM, there it was. It's just a great cover. I have siubscribed to many magazines in the past and picked them up at news stands and none have the quality of "finish" this magazine is printed with. The photo section is crisp and clear. I can't wait to get to the conten

I agree it tends to get everywhere but the gun may actually make it worse. I try to catch a decent day and do it outside with the wind, if any, blowing in a favorable direction. A dust mask is a must no matter how careful you are, I don't like the idea of nylon in my lungs. Something you might try is going to the local hardware store and getting a storage container and modifying it into a booth.

149. Re: Making Reamers
Get in touch with Neals Fishing Products. He'll have everything you need. The medium grit is great and I believe it makes far better reamers than ones with sandpaper strips. Any time you make one with strips you have to figure a way to keep it secure at the top. And when it does let go it will get stuck in the middle every time.
