Castaway XP 3 Big Show 2

Match up all but length -

SAmmy - since he's drifting you do not need a rod who's casting range is 1-3oz. If casting is only going to consist of flippign the bait out 20-30 feet, you should look for a light FW blank rated no more than 1oz. Drifting for FLuke (Flounder) is prety much all I do, the best blank I have for 1-3oz is a GUSA 703. While htey are out of business, I do have a few blanks for myself which I've been "hoarding" which will wor perfectly for 1-3oz drifting. I have a guy in Louisiana who picked up a few 60# + Gar using a 663 a week ago, he got the blank specifically for Flounder, SPecs, and Red down there. .

Billy, how would classify the "backbone" in these blanks?

Billy, why don't you just post the picture of my fish to answer any questions about the backbone of those blanks.

Sammy, Lane is the guy who caught the Gar. Here is his picture: [stripersonline.com]

Teh one thing never in question about a GUSA, is the backbone. Ingeneral they are probably 10% heavier than otehr companies blanks in the same rating, but the differenceis they have more of a moderate action with a fish on. This is great for soft mouth fish and using braided line, as teh rod acts like a bit of a cushion. XF & Fast actiion graphite rods that shut off have way down and have a stiff feel to them - I honestly do not know how people use these rods.
