Tim, I know Mudhole used to have some colored EVA but I haven't checked lately. Not sure about the pink but I seem to recall purple. Randy.

Ken, I use wood rod holders that I got from Cabelas and Pro Bass Shops. They are the nice display type that hold the rods/blanks vertical and have felt padding. The latest one that I got from Bass Pro Shops has positions for 14 rods but I think I've got like 25 blanks on it. It also has four drawers for supplies or whatever. That one is on sale right now about $119. It's also a nice when c

Billy, How about CTS? I haven't used any of their saltwater stuff yet but really like the freshwater blanks. Maybe worth a thought. My .015. Randy.

John, I use the Testor's modeling brushes. I get them in a three pack (different sizes) and throw them away after each use. I use them for CP and finish and they run about $1.00 per pack. They never shed bristles either. Randy.

Mark, What's your web site. I'd like to check it out. You can always email the info if you don't want to it post here. You probably don't remember me but I spoke with you briefly in Charlotte. Will you be there next year as well? Randy.

Joe, That's exactly what I do and it works fine. I put a very thin layer of finish on the underwraps and let it cure overnight. I wrap the guide with two overwraps putting finish on inbetween each wrap as well. I keep the finish build-up to a minimum until the final coats go on. Wrapping over the existing wraps that have finish already makes it very easy. Some say it's overkill to do it tha

George, I built on one of those blanks back in August and have the spec sheet to give you an idea of the guides I used, spacing, etc. I'd be glad to send it to you but your email address is hidden. Randy.

Henry, Just as Mike mentioned above look at the G. Loomis GLX. I just built one for a customer, 7' 10-17 lb. split grip with titanium guides. Extremely light set-up yet the blank has plenty of backbone. I was so impressed with the blank that I'm ordering one for myself. Pricey but not too bad if you can get it at wholesale. Randy.

Dale, If you unhide your email address I can send you a digital pic of the thread carriage from my Renzetti. Might make more sense than trying to explain it. Randy.

John, I can't speak for the Flexcoat but I have a Renzetti now and really like it. I used to use a American Tackle Power wrapper but like the Renzetti much better. The quality of the Renzetti is much better because the chuck is very similar to a wood lathe-type chuck and the thread carriage is aluminum.. The ATP wrapper's chuck and thread carriage is plastic. The problem I ran into was that

Dave, First of all welcome. Second, I used the guides your referring to and they work fine. They are a little heavier (probably because of the ring) then some other similar type guides but if weight isn't a big factor you'll do fine with them. And, they do look pretty cool. What type of rod are you putting them on? Randy.

Bruce, Also, I use Aftcote all the time and as long as it's mixed properly it's very tolerent to external heat (flame, heat gun, etc.). My .02. Randy.

John, I've got one and really like it. There are a couple of things, however, that I think could be improved a bit. I'm speaking strickly from my own experience, other builders might not think these items are a problem: 1. The rod support base and the carriage mount (to the lathe itself) could be thinner (not as wide). It's gets somewhat difficult near the tip or anywhere else for that ma

Anthony, I use both an Alps and a HP 2210 for my decals. I like the Alps for metallic decals and the HP for full color. Just my preference, they both work very well. Using high quality water transfer decal paper is very important too. Randy.

Bill, I really don't know if it's all necessary but it works fine and I kinda stick with what works for me. I just like the peace of mind. You'll probably like the rod I'm currently working on. "LSU" theme FW split-grip spinning bass rod for one of their biggest fans. Randy.

Steve, I use Madeira quite a bit on guide wraps on heavy SW stuff and haven't had a problem yet. I do pretty much what Tom stated by putting a layer of finish down on the underwraps before the guides go down. I double-wrap all my SW rods and usually do the first wrap wtih Gudegrod A (usually black or NCP) with a flood coat of finish penetrating down to the underwrap. I remove as much finish o

Brandon, I just competed a Calstar Grafighter 800M that I wrapped bumper stype. Awesome blank with lots of backbone. If your interested, I'll send you the spec sheet so you can see the guide layout for yourself. It's also got some other info such as reel seat, grips, etc. Cut me an emaIl if you want it. I can also send a couple of pics. Randy.

Bill, I've actually had a couple of incidents that I've concluded are from exposure to epoxy. It's happened twice for me the last time about a year or so ago. My symptoms are a slight rash on arms and chest and my eyes swell. It usually last for about 2-3 days. Since my last reaction, I've added an "Ionic Breeze" air purifier to my rod room and wash very thoroughly (hands and face

I would certainly host one here in Cali. Got plenty of room and a test cast pond (swimming pool). Got a place in Havasu (AZ) that would work as well. If anyone out west (or anywhere for that matter) is interested email me. Randy.

I'm building a GUSA rod right now for a customer in oxblood red. The color is awesome and looks no different (in terms of finish quality) than any other blank. Very impressed with it. Randy.
