Tartan Wrap ???

Never have done a Tartan Wrap before and I really would like to give it a try. I sure do need some guidance on this style of wrap. Also, what about some color combos. Thanks in advance.

First, either paint the blank white or underwrap with white NCP. Wrap diamonds using regular nylon thread...this will become semitransparent after epoxy is applied. Close the wrap between the diamonds with regular white nylon (other light colors work too, white is the most common). Use single threads of white and black NCP over the closed wrap to add accent trim.

Remember too that the regular nylon will become darker when epoxy is applied. I would suggest using light or medium shades if you want more contrast.

Jim,
Another variation I like is to wrap on 4 axis. Make one set of diamonds one color mainly with a little of another for a two tone diamond. Make the second set of diamonds reversing the color combinations. On the 0 and 180 axis you will have Red diamond, Yellow diamond Red, etc, on the 90 and 270 you will have a combination of the red and Yellow. The fill in with white, yellow or light blue etc.,and add the finish. Yellow and blue make green .Red and blue make purple and so forth. Quite often I add my accent threads after the first coat of finish for a 3 - D effect. I have even put on two coats of finish before the accent threads for a higher effect. Sometines One set then finish then a second set followed by a third coat of finish. I use NCP thread for accents.
If you Goole tartan you can come up with official tartan plaids of all the clans. If you have a favorite plaid shirt study the pattern. Sometimes a NCP threat in the diamond itself will add to the design. The fun part is putting on the finish and seeing the pattern develp.
Use a thin finish for the first coat of epoxy finish. I thin mine with MEK but there is probably better and safer stuff to use.
