Recently, I saw in a catalog, a butt cap on a factory rod that had a dial on it with numbers on it that could be set to indicate line test on the reel. Currently, I use little stickers on my reels that I write the line test on. Thought it was a good idea. I have looked for them, but can't seem to find them. Does anyone know if there available as a rod componet? Thanks

Is it neccessary to rough up the blank area where the cork grips are to be set before setting in rod bond or does it really matter. Thanks.

I am going to Alaska this summer and will be fishing salmon in salt water. I will mostly be fishing inshore. As this type of fishing is new to me, I would like to build a rod for this trip. I am looking for blank recommendations etc. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP........Bob.

Obviously, you will be using a casting reel. I would highly recommend one of the spirel wrap guide set up of your choice. Torque is huge on a fully loaded muskie rod if your hooked up.

Threaded rod??????? Like Jerry,I like a 1/4 smooth mandrel with a bit of butchers wax on it. Excellent results. Toilet bowl wax????????? I'm a plumber. You DON'T want that stuff all over your cork grip. Trust me!

If it's an inexpensive blank, just trash the whole thing. Too much work to try to disassemble the whole thing.(imo) Bring your blank to your favorite auto body shop and have them spray it and clear coat it when he's painting a car.

Ive read many posts on fish eyes. WASH YOUR HANDS! Think like a surgeon. When I wrap thread or apply epoxy my hands are clean, clean, clean. I do not touch epoxy inbetween coats. I M O, most contaimination is coming right off your fingers.. Do you eat popcorn while you are wrapping guides? Try it, just another "common sense system.

A fishing magazine I recieve, unfortunatly, I cant remember which one, infisherman, nafc? A few months back, had still shots of line, floro and mono coming off the spool. It was incredible what it looked like. Really opened my eyes when considering builds and line types.

JARED, try threadmaster lite.I'll do 3 maybe 4 coats. First coat should be very thin.

Florocarbon line (heavy) creates enhanced line slap on a spinning reel (rod). I avoid floro on my spinning reels unless I use a 3 or 4 ft. Leader.

A custom rod? Use better cork. Filled cork always looks like its been filled.

You can use winding checks on the 2 inside exposed gaps to cover that space.
