If you want a faster blank then check out the RX-7 line they are a faster blank in my opinion.

I cant tell you this about the RX-6 blanks and that is that they fish like blanks costing over twice as much. They are a great value for the money. I fish them in Alaska for salmon and i love them.

I am wrapping a rust colored lamiglas blank and i wanted to have it look like i used clear thread. Is that just regular nylon thread with no CP on it to get that look? I want to see the snake guides clearly with no color. Thanks!

How many of you use Drywall tape for reel and grip arbors? Also how does regular masking tape work if you have to build up the blank 1/8 of an inch or more? Or do i need graphite arbors??

Also if the rod is in a cool place such as a basement you may want to put in some place warmer. i had a problem with my first rod staying tacky. i moved it upstairs where it was warmer and 8 hrs later it was just fine. When in a cool place epoxy can stay tacky far longer that in a warmer place.

you need zero casting qualities in a rod for reds. You dont cast for them as they run within just a few feet from shore. I seldom if ever have more than 8-9ft of line out from rod tip to my sinker. Backbone is essential. Tough is essential. I would not spend a lot on a red blank. You just waste money by doing so. I have seen the Kenai reds break MANY rods in my day and i have seen guys almost cry

I finsh reds on the Kenai all the time so i know what you are looking for. If you cut anything off of the rod to make it shorter cut off the tip. As you know reds on the Kenai run big and with the current you need a lot of rod. One thing you may want to look at is a spinning or casting blank. Again i would lean towards a stiffer rod. I have never seen anyone on the Kenai wish they had a softer ro

I just purchased a bunch of Lamiglas blanks from Anglers workshot. They are Lamiglas International Sardina 6'6'' I665H 30-60 blanks. Do any of you have any ideas for the size and placement of the guides on them? i am going to use them for jigging halibut in Alaska. I plan on using a 10" slickbut and a 10" front grip if that matters. Thanks for your help!

I know i should have checked first but i just placed an order with them. They are a sponsor here so i thought i would give them some business. Have any of you ordered from them before? They had some good deals on Lamiglas rod blanks so i ordered some along with some finish and such. I hope they had the blanks in stock as the order processed just fine. Any one have any info on Anglers?

I would go with a Batson RX-7! I have a 10wt i use in Alaska for salmon and its a superb rod. I am sure there are better out there but not for the price. Its the best value out there. The RX-7 is a rod that fishes like a rod that costs a few hundred more dollars!

Greetings I have some questions about color preserver and metallic thread. I am just about done wrapping a rod with metallic thread for the guide wraps. Butting up to that will be polyester thread for the trim. The polyester thread is the exact color I want it to stay so I need to make sure I give it 3 coats of color preserver. I will be using U-40 color preserver for that. My question is this.

Well i went to a fabric shop and spotted the exact color i was looking for to accent my guide wraps. Here is my question. The thread is 100% polyester thread. It looks great as trim for my guide wraps. Any problems with polyester thread for that application?

I have a 5'9" blank that i am building. It has a 12" slick but, reel seat and a 14" Hypalong foregrip. the blank is a Gator SP-KC30 5 9" Heavy Mod 30 IGFA / Bottom Rod 14 tip and a .78 base. I only have 37" of rod blank sticking out of the foregrip to put guides on. this is a very stout rod. Any suggestions or did i not leave enough room for guides?

Ok I was lookint at Avet HX 2 speeds reels on a website and the next thing i know i see a screen that says order place. You will recieve your reel in a few days. I dont know how that happened but it did. Now i want to build a rod for it. I am thinking of building a rail rod as many times you just put the rod on the rail and crank. I am thinking of a Gator 6ft blank. My question is what do i use f

Personally i would go with the Rainshadow. I have had nothing but good luck with Batson blanks. I just built 3 more Rainshadow fly rods for Alaska. My buddies love them and wont fish with anything but them now.

I use it and i would not build a rod with out it. It keeps the cork for getting all dirty looking and makes fish slime wipe right off. I use Trondak U-40 and its well worth the money!

While i have not built any Rainshadow switch rods i have built some Rainshadow fly rods and i love them. For the money they are the best value out there.I dont think there is a blank in their price range that even comes close.

Check out the Batson RX-6 or RX-7 2pc blanks. I would say they would be a better blank than either of the ones you mentioned for less money. My fly rods are pretty simple with a basic reel seat and snake guides with a good stripper guide. WIth a fly rod you want to keep it light so just keep that in mind. any good rod builder should do just fine on it.
