I am thinking of building a crappie rod from a Batson RX-7 4-6lb Popping rod blank. I want to use it for pitching small crappie jigs. Any thoughts on how it woud work?

I just looked them up. 1st time i have ever heard of them. I looked at their prices and for the money i would stay with a Batson. I am in love with their fly rod blanks. That all my buddies and i use in Alaska. Very tough and a great all around blank for a great price!

I am going to build a10wt fly rod for Alaska. I dont really cast with it but just flip for reds on the Kenai. I am going to build it on a 2pc RX-6 or RX-7 blank. What is the real difference between them?

Here is my question. I found an American Classic Diamond 10wt blank i am going to build into a fly rod for fishing the Kenai in AK. It is a "sanded natural" blank. What are the benefits for finishing the whole blank? Its going to be a rod for a friend to use and a back up for my Batson. Just wondering if i should finish it.

I was told by a rod building supply house that Batson bought out Gudebrod. Any one else heard this?

I have found the Pro Wrap color chart is not even close to Gudebrods colors even though the numbers are supposed to be the same as Gudebrod

I built a 10wt forecast and for the money you cant beat it! Batson sells great blanks. There are better blanks out there than the forecast line but NOT at that price

I wrote the above letter to Bill Batson. I am going to be building another Forcast this winter and maybe more. My buddies in AK loved it and now they want one. That rod went though heck and back before i hooked that King. What a great rod! I can see me using Batson blanks for a long long time! They make a great product and every time i emailed a question to them they were quick with a response.

Dear Bill: I just wanted to write and let you know how my Forecast 2pc. 10wt did on the Kenai river in Alaska. Its now a 4 piece rod not a 2 piece like it started out. I want to state up front this was abuse and NOT a request for replacement. Where we fish on the Kenai the current is swift so we are forced to use 40 or 50lb mono with the drag tightened all the way down. When you accidently snag

I tried Pro Wrap and though i love their thread their mtallic was so twisted it was VERY hard to work with. It was just a snarled mess as it came off of the spool. Any help would be appreciated!

I am going to take your advice about coating my underwraps before I wrap the guides. My question is this. Is there a time frame that i have to put the second coat over my final wrap? Can i finish the underwraps and come back a few days later put on the guides and wraps and then put on the final coat of finish? Is there anything I need to do before i put on the final coat of finish? Guys i really

I am going to be using ProWrap D NCP thread for my underwrap under the guides and then Same thing for my overwrap over the guide feet. Do i need to epoxy the underwrap first or can i just do it in one coat when i am done with the wrap?

I have finished a few rods now and can see how the epoxy soaks into the thread. My next rods i was going to use NCP thread. From what i have read NCP thread does not soak up any epoxy. My question is this. Do you get a weaker wrap with NCP thread being the epoxy does not penetrate it?

I would stick with Batson as you can count on them standing behind what they sell. You will not find better people than the Batson's. I have heard of poor if any communication with the tiger eye people
