125. Did i mess up?
I just stopped in a rod building and fly shop today. they had Gudebrod thread in size D on close out. I bought 6 spools of it. I am going to be making some 10wt Forecast fly rods. I hope D gives me a nice looking wrap. I am new and this will be my first rod. I would have bought A but they did not have any of that left. For the price i thought i would give it a try. Should i use it?

As you know Sockeye run right next to shore and its a glacial river so very poor visability. We simply tie our fly on a 3ft leader and a few split shot. You just flip out a rod lenght from shore and drift your fly with the current. you will know when a red hits it just keep your line tight so you dont have a lot of slack. The Kenai is a pretty fast moving river so its game one when you hit

I am going to be doing my fist build of some rods for Alaska. I will be using them for fishing Sockeye so casting is of no importance as we use them for flipping. We load our fly reels with mono. I am looking for some 9 or 10wt 9ft 2pc blanks. I want to keep it under 100.00 a blank. Durability is HUGE. What blanks would you recommend?

133. Re: thread ?
Fly tying is most often made to lie flat and not keep a rounded shape. Also as posted before it is almost all waxed to some degree.

I am going to be building two rods for Alaska. they will be Batson Forecast blanks in Dark Blue Gloss. What color thread would look good for the rod guides? This is my first rod build so i dont want to get too fancy but i have no sense of what color goes good with dark blue. Like my wife says i am very color challenged. Thanks for your help!!

Over kill is what i am looking for in a rod! we fish fast moving water and i too have see sockeye destroy rods. My back up will be the rod i have used for years. A good old ugly stik. It does ok but its heavier than a 2x4. I would rather have a rod to stiff than not stiff enough. My buddy had an 8wt last year and he was a under gunned. He had a hard time getting them in the net. Like i said we f

Ok i am getting read for my first build. I am thinking of getting either a Rainshadow or a Forecast blank. My question is what is the difference? I will be building a 9wt or a 10wt for fishing Alaska. I will use it for fishing Sockeye in fast water. Sockeye run right next to shore so casting is of no importance. Any help you could give an FNG would be much appreciated! Thanks for your help!
