My last build was a hm mhx mb844 (7' heavy) with spiraled micros. Butt guide was a 4 then 3's on out. It's currently my favorite rod. It's fantastic for pitching and skipping baits in the 3/8oz territory.

I thought they did that already? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

I knew Kistler had something like that going but I don't know if they can set up a rod for a specific reel, set the handle length exactly where you want it, do specific thread wraps, custom decals, turn the handles to specific shapes, spiral wrap, etc. etc. We will always have the upper hand when it comes to the details but I see what you are saying.
Anyway no more icast news for builders?

Bill I again see your point but (you knew that was coming ha ha) they have to compete with everyone also. They have to bring a product that stands out in the crowd. You can't blame them for building a better or more appealing rod. That's what they are supposed to do. My point is a builder shouldn't and has no grounds to get upset about a company using ideas that may or may not have originated fro

You got a point but a custom builder can always build a rod specific to every customer. No manufacture can do that and to me that should be the push to get a buyer. That's why I started building and I'm sure most others too. I could find lots and lots of nice rods but none made the exact way I wanted. Maybe what I shoulda done was find a good builder and have him build me some rods but I elected

Are rod manufactures not allowed to use trends from the custom market? I don't get that people get upset about this.
Anyway I saw a picture of a spinning guide that looked like it had a funnel attached to it. That got me wondering if Fuji or anyone released anything cool. I know matagi was there also. Hopefully they found a good U.S. vendor.

Regardless of price I'm betting they wanted the jet right then rather than wait a week for one to come in. Also lots of jets are brass. Magnets probably won't do much good.

Here's a good way to sum up a typical bass fisherman and a typical tournament day:
Think of it like racing and like a race car. If you're out on the track to win are you worried about a few scratches? Are you worried about about running the engine to hard? Probably not if you want to win! Do racers purposely beat their cars on the wall and over rev the engine? 99% of the time no.

Yep that's pretty much how I treat my rods. I'm not emulating anything and I highly doubt most others do either. If you fish tournaments getting fish in the boat is the name of the game. Yes I know better than to gouge a jig out if rocks but I do it anyway and I'm pretty good at it. I think Steve Gardener mentioned that he did this too. I've yet to see it on tv though. Also if your bass blank ca

Thank you Todd and Bill for the replies.
Frogs are a tricky critter to build for. Usually you use heavy line and fish around wooley cover so a high powered rod is good. At the same time they don't weigh much and a low presentation on the cast is often needed so the faster the blank the better. The fast action is most of the reason I wondered why someone would trim the bb1. Obviously if you tr

I know a lot of you guys use these blanks for frog rods. I was wondering why some of you trim 3" off the blank?
Also is there a current mhx that excels for frogs? Just to be clear I'm talking about the hollow topwater frogs.

I can't imagine it benefiting much but I'd still try it. I winder if you could get better build with permagloss type finishes since it wouldn't soak in as much? I assume anyway.

Sounds like when the frame got punched it never got deburred and likely the tooling was dull.

I guess I don't see the benefit. If the wraps are strong enough to break a guide it's strong enough to break a rod. I would rather have the guides come out.
I always wrapped using the Forhan method but after discussing it with a friend who knows quite a bit more than me about it I'm having second thoughts.
