carbon fibre guide wraps

Anyone know anything about this? I just saw it on the Abu site for their new Villian rods. They are claiming that they carbon fibre wraps are lighter than conventional wraps.

Considering the minute weight of thread and epoxy, it would be hard to replace it with anything that would be appreciably lighter. Only ridding the guide os any sort of attachment material and just gluing it to the rod blank is likely to save any practical amount of weight in that respect.

I looked at the video of the rod and it looked like conventional single filament wraps and finish. I can’t imagine how they get any tension if they really use carbon fiber thread since it wouldn’t have any stretch at all. I wrapped a rod with Pro Wrap metallic thread, which has very little stretch but nothing like carbon fiber, and it was a nightmare.

Really like their new reel seat though.

I looked into using carbon fiber thread. I was put off by the warnings associated with it's use.

I can't imagine it benefiting much but I'd still try it. I winder if you could get better build with permagloss type finishes since it wouldn't soak in as much? I assume anyway.

Carbon composite guides would save more weight than carbon fiber threads. In either case it would be a challenge detect any difference in the rod's performance due to such a change. Carbon fiber wraps are a attempt by marketing to create a perception of difference in a parity product.

Pro Thread metallic @#$%&! If you lose tension on the thread off the spool it shoots off usually into the springs on either side. why they make it so annoying. But really how much of a difference can the wraps make.
