I know a lot of you guys use these blanks for frog rods. I was wondering why some of you trim 3" off the blank?
Also is there a current mhx that excels for frogs? Just to be clear I'm talking about the hollow topwater frogs. Re: Castaway BB1

Thanks for specifying use in your initial post.
Several different types of frog rods. May use BB1 trims to tune rod positioning for proper working of frog. You need the longest rod you can handle to take up line slack and throw long. Some work frogs with the faster action BB1 tip down. Clears the water. XP 3 BB1 for hollow top water frogs. XP3 874 moderate action for slop and braid use. Use the Contact Us link at [www.swamplandtackle.com] for task specific information. Re: Castaway BB1

Thank you Todd and Bill for the replies.
Frogs are a tricky critter to build for. Usually you use heavy line and fish around wooley cover so a high powered rod is good. At the same time they don't weigh much and a low presentation on the cast is often needed so the faster the blank the better. The fast action is most of the reason I wondered why someone would trim the bb1. Obviously if you trim it you slow it down some. Maybe the blank is fast enough it can stand a little taken off and also gain accuracy from the shorter length? This weekend pond fishing with my family I used a recently built mhx cb907 to throw a bronzeye frog. It actually did ok because I was just make long casts so accuracy wasn't important. I built the rod to crank with but I've been anxious to test the power of it. The power was great but in the thick moss you can never have to much. I will say that I have to much backing and not enough braid on my reel. I could absolutely send that frog into orbit with ease! For open water this blank would be good. Again for accuracy such as over hanging trees or docks it would be out of it's element. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
