I know blanks can be painted. Do you coat the painted blank with finish to protect the paint? Another question: Has anyone ever had a blank "dipped" in a camo or other pattern like they do with guns? if so, where did you have it done, and how much did it set you back?

Has anyone ever had a body repair service spray and clear a rod blank? If so, how did it work out? I was wondering about some issues: Does the clear stiffen the rod more? Does the epoxy adhere well after clear? Adverse Reactions? Durability of the paint? Any and all replies appreciated.

I have an older Sage fly rod and asked the factory what coating they use on their blanks and they said Flex Coat High Build. I find it interesting they would not use something more like a Perma Gloss or Lumi Seal. Would high build epoxy be protective enough? I have two sections that are pretty scuffed up and I want to protect them. One related question - if I do decided to use Perma Gloss

Hello everyone, I plan to paint a blank, and I would like to know if someone have ever used Lumiseal or Permagloss as finish, without any problem ? I have read that Lumiseal and Permagloss have a hot catalysts, and I am afraid by paint unsticking. I will try to paint and finish the blank in rotation to make a "sheathing" of paint and finish on the blank, for assure a good pain

Hi Chaps Been a long while and a lot of fishing since my last post. I've posted this on a few of our UK boards but no takers as yet so I thought I'd give you chaps a go at it as you will understand the 'why' of it better than most UK anglers. Now I need your help with a 'project' for a new rod I want to create. I am wanting to build a glass/carbon hybrid not composite 7 foot ish light lure

Hey guys, I got some blanks from the mudhole blowout and several of them seem faded or have been rubbed against something for part of the blank. What's the best way for me to tidy up these blanks? If I paint the blanks I'll have to epoxy the whole length to ensure the paint doesn't come off, right? Thank you.

Someone posted once about using a can with rubber the end and paint in the middle to paint a blank quickly. If someone could please explain this in better detail I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to paint a few blanks, and this sounds like an interesting way to do it. Any and all help would be wonderful.

I painted a couple of rods for my grandkids. The Fusion can states chip resistant after 7 days. The kids are only 7 and 10 so I want extra protection, so I want to clearcoat the rods also. Do you builders that paint, clearcoat before or after the guides are on? Is it necessary to wait 7 days before applying the guides? What have you all found to work? Thanks, Jeff Frei

I had a potential customer approach me that is a big bass tournament fisherman and inquired about a custom colored rod. We discussed it and I mentioned a few possibilites. I spent a few years in the automotive industry and thought about a body shop to do what he desires. Have any of you ever "farmed" out or had a blank painted by a body shop? In my estimation they would be the best

Been painting a bunch of blanks lately and have ran into a particular problem a few times. On 2 blanks the paint has been crackling on one axis for about 1ft.. Each blank has been sanded/deglossed and wiped clean (water and cloth) paying attention to keep my oily hands off of the blank. I have resanded each and removed the imperfections wiped clean (water and cloth again) and the problem retu

working on a 7' spinning rod, i personally like the rod to feel balanced, not tip heavy, with rod balanced, may be a bit heavy after guides but not much, i tried to figure that in, she feels pretty good till you put the reel on then i have to admit she feels a little heavy, this is the reel that will go with rod, should i forget the balance part, i know there has been a lot said on here about

I was pondering painting a blank white and wanted some input in to how I should go about doing it. The blank in quesiton is painted and was wondering if I should strip the current finish or just paint over it. I know painting is another issue, but Im hoping your comments will shed some light for me.

I am building a North Carolina State Rod for my dad. In the past I have used Pac Bay NCP White thread, but it seems to look a little grey on a black blank after epoxy. The blank is black. Any suggestions on the whitest thread? Should I use the NCP white and CP? thanks, Thomas

Yesterday I had a request for a blank that had a clear top like the ugly stick but without the solid glass. The customer likes the being able to see the tip but doesn't like the weight. Looking for a 6.5' to 7.5' med action 8 to 12 lb. line. for fresh water wipers. Have any of you seen anything like this or know where I might be able to get one. I haven't..............thats why I'm asking y'all.

I'm new to the forum and rod building. I have one question though, I want a colored blank, and I was told I could paint the blank any color I choose. What paint works the best and will it hold up in tournament fishing. Thanks
