I am building a North Carolina State Rod for my dad. In the past I have used Pac Bay NCP White thread, but it seems to look a little grey on a black blank after epoxy. The blank is black. Any suggestions on the whitest thread? Should I use the NCP white and CP?
thanks, Thomas Re: White Thread

Size A NCP white wrapped tightly and burnished should solve your 'greying' problem. Re: White Thread

On any light colored threads, packing them tight is a must. You are seing the blank come through. CP will not do much if you don't pack the threads tight enough. One thing people do is paint under the threads. This way the black of the blank does not show through. Re: White Thread

I always use CP with White NCP if I want the most brilliant white possible. Packing it tight, as mentioned above, is important.

Hi,
I get the whitest white on black blanks by painting the blank white under the wraps. A thin coat of finish over the white paint will protect the paint while wrapping. A coat of Flexcoat CS/CP over the paint will also protect the white paint. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: White Thread

If you don't mind a little more work for the brightest white, use white ncp over an underwrap of metallic silver with color preserver put on after the white. The silver really makes the white "pop". It helps to wrap the silver in one direction and the white in the opposite or apply a thin coat of finish on the silver before wrapping the white. Oh yeah, wrap and pack both colors well.
