I'm new to the forum and rod building. I have one question though, I want a colored blank, and I was told I could paint the blank any color I choose. What paint works the best and will it hold up in tournament fishing. Thanks Re: Painting Blanks

Pep boys or automotive store that has dupli-color. Smaller cans but have more colors. May cost little more to cover. Some nice metallics. Wallyworld Krylon Fusion is verygood, cheap covers well but they don't have alot of colors. Have used both godd results. If you are going to use a lighter color on dark blank. You might hit it with a light primer coat for better coverage. Bill Re: Painting Blanks

Should have added this before. Light abrade scotchbrite or 320-400 grit paper first and of course permagloss or lumiseal to protect rod. Permagloss is alot hotter may want to do a test patch to see if pg will lift paint. Pretty sure lumideal won't lift paint. Bill Re: Painting Blanks

Howard, Like Bill said, just use a good quality spray paint. Prep your blank to water break free surfacee and paint. then coat with the LumiSeal. It is not as hot as PG and will give a good strong finish.

I just completed what you want to do with your blank. Surface prep is crucial. Used krylon fusion paint , covers well, words of caution do this in a as dust free enviornment as possible. Applied lumiseal (first time doing this) via a 1 in. foam brush. Kudos to Scott at fishsticks for the info to complete this project. Lots of very useful info and knowlegdeable builders on this board.
