I recently went to a UPS Store to ship out a rod and was told it was to long and could not be shipped. The package measured 108" long by 2" x 2" pvc pipe with caps so overall dimensions were 108" long by 3" x 3". I went on UPS website and stipulated I was sending from a UPS Store and got a shipping price with no problem. I am more of a hobbyist and was just wondering

Thanks For The Replies, I was just curious as to the texture of the material and not really aware of any construction problems. My son in law has used these these grips on rods thru his guiding service and stated that after a week of fishing with them that if given a finger print test his skin was worn down to a point that the test would not be able to pick up any prints. Thanks Bill, You have been a great inspiration and a pioneer to alot us. Keep up the great work. I have been trying to transition this into the musky fiishing world but they are a hard sell. Has been a tuff sell just to get them to try the urethane foam grips. I speak from experience,my son in law is one of the top musky guides in the upper midweast and he wants me to make a new rod for my da

Is there any problems with using the wrapping threads as the tie off loops. I find it easy because they are always right there. I have not had a problem with any breaking unless I may be wrapping to lightly, off course metallics not to be used. Jeff leonard

Hello Dennis, I got the PERFORMAX model 90242, 500 CFM. Not a big unit but it sure beats cleaning shop vac filters, now all I have to do is empty the collection bag. Wish I had done this years ago. Jeff Leonard

Matt, Sorry to leave you hanging. My intention was just to let anyone that was thinking about purchasing a dust collection system that you will not be dissappointed. This is not really a small investment, mine was around $250.00 from Menards. Any of the larger tool companies make them such as Jet, Delta, Steel City and offer much bigger units than the one I have. My point being is that once yo

I have been secluded to a basement work space for years and have not had the opportunity to seperate the turnihg, cutting , sanding space from the all important clean dust free thread wrapping area that I would like. I recently purchased a dust collection devise that I attach to each individual power tool and I can tell you that it has made a world of difference. I no longer have to chase aroun

Gene, I purchased a CPR about four years ago and had second thoughts as soon as I set it up. I had been wrappinig with the thread feed from behind and over the top for twenty years on a combination Clemens parts and home made McGiver. I have gotten use to using the CPR but still am dissappointed that I can not use the internal expansion vises I have become so accustom to using. The only way t

Marc, The last few Diamonback muskie blanks I ordered were thru Thorne Bros. I am not quite sure if they still use them in their builds, I doubt it. They may have some left over, try giving them a call. By far the lightest blank for it's size but if they are out sourced I not so sure I would want to spend the money on them. Jeff Leonard

Tony, I recently posted a mistake I had made similiar to yours and this is one of the helpful replies I had received. Posted by: Duane Richards (DR) (---.rn.hr.cox.net) Date: February 24, 2009 10:13AM Jeff, If you have some permagloss or even rod thread finish, take it and wipe the finish into the scratch and then wipe off all the excess completely, leaving only a tiny bit in the sc

I just recently started my first micro build and wanted to warn others new to this of a mistake I made. I attached the guides to the blank using the small cable ties. Noticing that they are a little difficult to get them as tight as I liked I started cinching them up tight toward the tip and would slide them down toward the butt for a nice tight fit. Everthing was going fine until I noticed one o

Thanks a bunch Billy I will play with this as soon as I get home. The pattern I was working with I got from the pattern library and it is the fish scale shading. Maybe a little to challenging for a rookie playing with VisualWrap. I have had the software for two years and am now just getting to learn it. I use to do things old school but I can already tell this thing has endless capabilities. I

Thank you gentlemen. I see that I was not returning the cursor to the previous line and thus getting the empty line error. Billy, can I assume that in flat view using Grip - Rod- EWRP as pattern threads they will wrap into the pattern? What happens to these threads in 3D? Jeff Leonard

If a pattern calls for 12 different thread colors and there are only 8 spools to work with how do you go about adding the extra spools for the additional thread colors? Next question, if I want to delete a script that has been appended how do you do that without starting all over again. I have looked everywhere I can think of and can't seem to find these solutions. Thanks for any help you can th

Bob, I have been fishing the Chip for the past forty years and like most people started out with the old 5' broomsticks and have graduated to using primarily 7'6" to 8' rods. I am rather short and fish out of a Tuffy and still prefer the longer rods, much easier to cast and when you get one of those really snakey critters hot on the figure 8 you can't beat the longer rods. Some great advi

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. Just to let you know the fore grip is 1.15" OD and 4.5" long. Butt is 14" long with straight taper from 1.20" to 1.175 OD. I really like this grip and the weight saving is incredible. Thanks As Always, Jeff Leonard

I recently gave a musky rod with a foam core grip to a person I could rely on to really put it to the test. He fished with it in a driving rain storm and commented that it was a little to slippery for his liking in the rain. It has only one coat of urethane on it. I am open to suggestions on what I could do short of rebuilding the handle. Thanks All Jeff Leonard

I just recently purchased an ALPS MD1000 printer with hopes of printing my own decals using the metallic inks. Only problem is I don't have a clue on how to use this printer and it didn't really come with any real type of manual. I assume that to create a decal that will be applied over a dark blank that I will need to print in layers starting with white. Do I need to purchase any type of special

No, Tom I never thin CP and I would assume that the bubbles are from trapped air in the weave area because the rest of the rod turned out perfectly. Good idea Scott, but there are so many bubbles it is discolored and unless one is blind you can see it from ten feet away. Jeff Leonard PS - Lesson learned, apply finish to weave or wrap before finishing entire rod.

Just put the finishing touch on a complete build last night with an epoxy finish. Tiny, tiny, tiny bubbles imbeded in the finish, only where the weave is as luck would have it. I have never had this happen before. Weave area was treated with 2 coats CP. My question is, what if anything can be done short of starting over? Jeff Leonard

Anyone that was lucky enough to attend the show and get a good look at both @#$%& and VisualWEAVE I would like to hear from you. I am sure both products are high quality but I just wanted some opinions on the pros and cons. I would like to make an educated purchase. Please email me with responses. Thank You Jeff Leonard
