I need advise on building a bass rod on a MHX- MB843. I normally build musky and walleye rods and my question is how long a rear handle to build on split grip from butt to rear of reel seat. My gut feeling is 14" but I like longer butt handles. Just would appreciate some feed back from you bass guys. Thanks in advance. Jeff Leonard

Thanks Mark for a great day, more than worth the 160 mile drive I would do it again without question. Great presentations and nice to put faces to people we all have heard of. The support from contributing sponsors was awesome. All in all a great time. Jeff Leonard

Thank you all for the responses, it has been fun to read them all. I wish I could meet everyone of you. Mr. Rod Churchward you touched me in a way you did not intend. I had to put down my lab at the age of 14 that would sit in my recliner and watch me wrap but always begged for peanuts from my bench. Hope to meet some of you at the Iowa gathering. Jeff Leonard

Thank you all for your input it has been fun reading the responses, I think the one response that tugged on me the most was from Rod Churchward. Had to put my Lab down last week after 14 years. She would come down and watch me but begged for peanuts from my bench. She would lay in my recliner with the space heater facing her and fall asleep. Darn dogs are are like kids. Hope to see some of you a

Just wanted to conduct a poll on the most popular music played in the background while wrapping and packing ( no pun intended)! I find alternative rock to be the most productive. Jeff (whitey) Leonard aka Sterile Harold

Thanks John, I will do that but I feel confident that once it is glued up to the blank I will not have any issues. Time will only tell, when my poor friend looses the fish of a life time he can only blame me. I said friend not client! Thank you all for your help. Sincerely, Jeff Leonard

Thanks Mark, I will definitely send you and Billy a pic of the grip so that we all know what I am up against. I just felt that a break of any kind in the glue bond would really set me back. After speaking with you I pressed the 1/4 " rod off the build and the aluminum bond broke loose. I had turned this to the point that it was as smooth as Billy's @*#". Now I have to glue up again and

Roger, Thank you so much for your response and your insight. I would like to attach a pic to this post but cannot figure out how to do that (old school). As you can well imagine there is a lot of time involved in the build and the last thing I need is a failure in a glue joint due to heat build up. This build was glued with Titebond Poly with the recommendation of a well known builder we all

I need to bore out some wood grips that contain aluminum trim rings and was wondering which method would put less stress on the glue joints, mounting on the lathe or using the drill press? One of my concerns is not to mar the shoulder by mounting in the lathe. There is a lot of material that will need to be removed going from .250" to about .650". I plan on using a number of bits workin

Much Thanks to Dan, Another wonderful event with great people and a good cross section of rodbuilders, a must show event if you are in the area for the next one you will not be disappointed. It was a pleasure to meet Billy and hope he can return for future events. It was a wonderful day and you can't beat Dan's amazing pulled pork and smoked fish! I am beginning to believe he enjoys cooking o

I recently clamped up a handle I was gluing up with a eva butt cap and the butt cap has a little deformed indentation in it. Is there a way to get this slight deformation out or do I have to cut it off and get a new one? Thanks, Jeff Leonard

Mark, Thank you for providing the opportunity for the gathering. It is truly a pleasure to meet people that I have followed over the years but have not had the pleasure to meet personally. What a great group of people we addicted rodbuilders are! It really is amazing how willing everyone is excited to share ideas and perpetuate our craft. I also would like share my appreciation to those that c

Dennis, I suppose that would be the ideal solution but I didn't want to spend that much on a reel seat. I would prefer to make a fore and rear grip out of wood and install a simple reel seat. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Jeff

I am working with an old bamboo rod that is very short and stout and would like to have the blank insert into the handle using a ferrule type system. The only problem is that it requires a size 34/64(13.5mm) or 36/64(14mm) . I have not been able to locate a ferrule of this size. I would greatly appreciate any information as to where I can find one of this size. Thank You Jeff Leonard Muskyf

Nick, Stan is right, get yourself a KVM switch to toggle between your old computer and the new one the best thing I have done this year. Get yourself an old computer to run the Alps and you should not have any problems until you run out of ink. Dennis was most helpful for me in setting me up with the software for my Alps I bought a few years ago. Thanks again Dennis. Sincerely, Jeff Leonar

John, I have done a number of water slide decals in the past using an inkjet printer and an alps printer with metallic silver or gold and have never had a problem after spraying with a light coat of Krylon Workable Fixatif. Just gives me that feeling that nothing will smear or lift while working with the decal. IMO just a precaution. I then will cover with a coat of CP. Have fun with it. S

Need Help, Does anyone know where I can get a set of agate nickel silver guides up to 16mm and a tip top in agate or carboloy with a tube size of 8mm. I am working on a make up for practical use or just for show on an old bamboo blank that is very short and quite stout. Want to be able to put this together for Mark's , WI gathering in January. I was just wondering if anyone other than myself is having difficulty contacting Decal Connection. I had placed an order and have yet to receive it but I cannot get in touch via phone and have sent several emails with no response. Is there something I am not aware of, just wondering? Jeff Leonard
