I just wanted to thank Dan for the hospitality and a great time meeting with everyone. Some truly remarkable builds on display and an informative lecture by Micheal Sledden on micro guides on bass rods. Those of you not attending missed out on a great educational experience but also the best darn pulled pork sandwich known to man. It was a great experience. I brought some antique bamboo rods just

My wife's uncle purchased some bamboo Hardy fly rods back in the 1980s when visiting England. He has since past away and now his wife wants to sell them, she has no paper work that she can find. She has been told that they are worth around $300.00, I am not real familiar with fly rods but I would think that they would be worth a little more than that. They have never been used and are in perfect

My subscription does not expire until 16-2 and I have gone through this before, extremely frustrating to have to send an email for not receiving my issues on time and end up getting them much later than I should. Thanks, Jeff Leonard

Vern, I am just guessing without knowing what you are particularly having a problem with, I am assuming it is with the finish on the reel seat hoods. If that is the case you can use a dremel tool to polish the reel seat hoods using one of the scotch brite attachments ( I don't recall the exact name for it). I have used it to remove the Tich finish to give a nice silver finish to the hoods.

Josh, I have been using brass wire (28) gauge to attach micro guides with out a problem. It will tighten just enough and still allow a little movement. Once you have the threads tie down the guide foot use nail clippers to remove the wire. To each his own, good luck. Jeff Leonard

Thanks so much for the advice gentlemen I will put it to the test. Billy, I think I would rather spend the money on the flight and crack open a beer with you, my treat of course. Tight wraps. Jeff Leonard

Guys I normally tie off and then apply U-40 color lock 2 to the entire wrap. The problem shows up with the long lengths of closing threads between the crosses which are pretty much anchored, yes I do pack and burnish before applying CP. Everything looks good until CP goes on and then the threads just want to puff up and look a little wavy. My best guess is the wrap is not tight enough but I can't

I have this problem with elongated closed cross wraps on small diameter blanks when I apply CP the threads puff up on me. I can't seem to be able to wrap as tightly as I would like and hold the threads in there position. I was thinking of maybe adding a dab of CP during the wrap but that would inhibit the ability to move and pack threads as needed. What advise do you have to offer? Thanks, Je

I am currently working on a closed wrap with the center design containing some bright orange thread, to close the wrap I will be fading dark brown to light beige. My concern is that the underlying orange will show thru the beige and yes I will be using cp. Should I attempt to color the orange with a sharpie before closing up the wrap or is there a better way of doing this? Thanks All Jeff L

Tom, The email address I was using was the contact email on the Rodmaker website ([email protected]) and my servers kept sending a message that there is some sort of problem. Maybe it is just me but I wanted you to know. Sincerely, Jeff Leonard

Tom, I did not want to use this forum to address an issue with my subscription to Rodmaker but I have yet to receive the last issue 12-6 and my last three emails to Rodmaker contact failed to go thru. The address label on my last issue states that my subscription expires with issue 16-2. Please advise. Thank you. Sincerely, Jeff Leonard

Gentleman, These chips are sanded smooth to remove the decorated faces and I have used them in the past with cork and wood without problems. Jay, I will give the vinegar a shot. There must be a contamination of some sort working here, quite possible a small speck of wax from the mandrel getting into the bond. Thanks for the help. Jeff Leonard

I have to agree with you Tom, the adhesive did not fail it is the bond. The adhesive appears to have bonded with the aluminum but not with the plastic. Both had been deglossed with 400 grit paper. Thanks for your replies gentleman. Jeff Leonard

I have been trying to glue up a handle which includes aluminum trim rings and poker chip trim rings, the adhesive used is rod bond. The bond between the aluminum and poker chip has failed for the third time. I have properly cleaned the surfaces and even drilled small holes in both with no success. I am at a loss on what to do. I am looking into purchasing a tool sharpening system and would appreciate your feedback. I have a limited budget and was wondering if anyone has experience with the Grizzly T10010 or the Woodturners Sharpening Kit from Woodcraft pros or cons on both. Thanks so much. Jeff Leonard

Thanks Kevin, I did need a starting point to work with. I work primarily with walley and musky blanks. I did not want to start out with a situation that would turn sour right off the bat. Jeff leonard

I was thinking of trying my hand at applying the adhesve backed abalone and was wondering if there is a general rule of thumb regarding the minimum size diameter of rod blank this material becomes difficult to work with. Thanks all, Jeff Leonard
