14641. Re: Bad fitting Ferrule ???
Yes you can - there is a complete article on reparing and fitting ferrules in the upcoming issue of RodMaker that mails tomorrow. The photos are a big help.
In the meantime, if you are sure the ferrule fits tight at the bottom but the male end inside the female is loose at the top, then you need to trim a little from the bottom of the female ferrule. Go easy - take 1/8th inch or so off and ch

The Viton rings end up being a nearly "lifetime" ring. They last much, much longer before they start drying and cracking. They're well worth paying a little bit more. They end up being less expensive in the long run.

Keep in mind that some firms that bought "Diamond Two" had no way of knowing that what they were buying and then selling wasn't the genuine product that Silvia is selling.
I'd say it's a pretty good offer to have whatever you have replaced with genuine product at no charge. Silvia certainly doesn't have to do this.

The CCS doesn't use those terms at all - if you have numbers you do not need subjective terms. When was the last time you saw a thermometer that had corresponding terms next to the numbers such as:
0 to 30 - cold
31 to 6 - cool
61 to 80 - warm
80 and above - hot
The numbers are all that's needed.
Until you have such a thing, however, you'll have to establish a baseline by figuring out

I've not gone beyond 3 layers of LS Supreme High Build, which is pretty darn thick. It didn't get me much more than 2 layers did so I would have to assume that there is indeed some point at which you don't gain anything extra by adding more and more. A good thick single layer, or two, seems to do about all that needs to be done.

Now you're faced with a subjective term that can mean different things to different people. Just what is "extra fast" and how fast is "fast?" The resolution in a system with only 3 points, or 5 if you want to combine a couple or three, is extremely poor. What you think of as fast may already be what he considers extra fast. Maybe.
Lacking good AA numbers, I'd have him bri

14652. Re: Store bought rods
The difference is the brand image. By the time the consumer picks up one of those rods he's not likely to really spend much time taking a close look at the quality, or lack of it, in the rod. He's already been sold by the marketing and advertising efforts that have created a positive image of that product in his mind.
This is the one thing that most custom rod builders lack - they have no b

You'll find that article in the series on the mobile rod lathe workstation. The foot control is highlighted in the volume 10 #5 issue.
I highly recommend the 1/10HP motor that Renzetti offers. It's a powerful motor and equally at home either wrapping or doing light duty turning chores.

The instructions in the original articles clearly state that you must apply a layer of finish (2 is even better) to the bottom layer. If you fail to do that you don't create the necessary space for the effect to take place.
I think your problem has just been solved.

CP on nylon thread, top and bottom, will give you more striking effects. Not using CP on nylon thread will give you a much more subdued effect.
Make sure you're using high contrast colors on the bottom - black and white or black and yellow will make the effect jump out at you. Also remember to burnish the bottom layer so that the threads are wavy and somewhat out of place. No gaps, but very in

14657. Expo Postcards
I have received a few calls over the weekend and again this morning concerning the vendors listed on the Expo postcard mailing. The card lists 38 vendors, the actual number exhibiting at this year's Expo is 47.
The difference in the number on the card versus the actual number that will exhibit is due to the fact that the card was printed back in the summer before all the vendors had signed on.

Guide manufacturers and distributors generally offer to "pre-grind" their guides for about a penny or two extra per guide. Rod Manufacturers often prefer the pre-ground variety because for them it's a time saver.
Unfortunately, the grinding is rather crude - a harsh few seconds against a coarse grit wheel that heats and changes the temper of the metal and often leaves a burr or burr

I'd try a 2 on the 4-weight and perhaps a 3 on the 8-weight. Either should easily pass those lines and a nail knot should pass easily during a mornings rigging. I assume you won't be winding the nail knot back onto the reel until the end of the trip. Generally, my nail knot (line to leader connection) never comes back inside the tiptop until I'm done for the day.

The right concentration of CO2 and humidity will cause amine blush.
There must be some way for you to increase the temperature of your shop during finishing operations. A small space heater, anything that might help get the temperature up a bit. Try to apply finish at 50F has to be difficult and is below the designed application parameters for most finishing epoxies.

14665. Re: hidden fees?
I haven't given any thought to doing the Expo in 2011. I might, and I might not. I have had offers from others that would like to buy and host the event themselves so it's possible that if I don't do it, someone else might. I take this one year at a time and concentrate on making each upcoming Expo the very best it can be.
What I would tell you is that if you're skipping this year with the in

"Any firm that tells you they turned down the opportunity or chose not to sell Diamond II, for any reason whatsoever, is making a false statement."
Read the statement again - it seems to refer to "firms" not individual rod builders.
Many manufacturers set a limit on how many dealers they wish to service. This is often good business sense because it keeps the pie from bei

14667. Re: hidden fees?
Okay, I read it. It's okay - the cost to benefit ratio is decided upon by the consumer. The Expo would not draw the exhibitors and attendees it does year after year if it didn't offer a tremendous value. Talk is just that - talk. Let's put this to bed as we prepare for another record setting event.

Mark,
I find this is a very odd topic. There are certainly many great deals and bargains to be had at the Expo. The prices there will be lower than just about any other time of the year. But, let's stop and use our heads for a moment - no one can "get into your pocket" unless you allow them to do so. You're not forced to buy anything. That choice is yours. The fact that so many do b

Depending on how much tension you use and how many strands you pull under, this can and does often happen with any brand of metallic thread. All the metallics are two-part threads with a nylon core and mylar outer covering. You can't treat it like regular one-part nylon thread.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean. Admission is $10 per day or $15 for two days. The admission fee covers admission, which includes any and all seminars that you wish to see, free roam in the exhibit hall and use of any and all related features in the Atrium and main hall. It includes you in the daily door prize drawings at no extra charge. There is nothing else to buy.
