Have you tried sealing the end with clear first any hard clear sealent I think would work, epoxy, perma gloss. I have used perma gloss to seal the voids in cork so my epoxy does'nt seap through my grip when doing fly inlays. Found this out the hard way. Mike Mikes custom fly rods
