241. Re: Chuck ?
Scott,
I use a Vicmarc vm100 on my headstock and a rotating tailstock chuck on my Jet with bed extension. Very happy with this setup so far.

Better off to pay now than five years down the road when Uncle Sam finds out you havent been meeting your obligations for the last five years and really smacks it to ya. I just set up my tax stuff thanks to this sight.

244. 2009 Custom Rod Expo
Tom,
I would like nothing better than to come to my second Rod Expo, but it does get costly with gas, motels and all the goodies. What I really want to come for is the seminars. Have you thought about taping them and selling DVD's and using the profits for the library program or a youth fishing program. I would be more than happy to buy such a DVD as I'm sure others would also. Coming from Misso

Eddie,
Just ask him what price range he wants to spend, because there is just to many good reels to choose from, and that would help to narrow your choice of reels.

Roger,
The last rod I did I needed to use cp and after the cp dried I used perma gloss to further seal the wraps, I had no bubbles and no dry spots and a light coat of epoxy for a change. The perma gloss also helped on another rod also.

Eddie,
I like my Pfleugers, but I also like my Galvan, I try to always buy the best I can afford at the time. The I used once Salmon fishing the Plfeugers I've been using for trout fishing the last five years with no problems. Good luck fishing.

Tim,
I also use threaded rod for glue up, I use a washer and nut on each for clamping make washers bigger than your rings. I also grind most of the threads off except for the end where I tighten things down if you take off to much use spacers to take up the space. The dried handle will screw right off ,I let dry about 12 hrs before taking off rod. then let dry for a while before turning, titebon

I posted a pic in the pictures area. When I picked up the handle it's really not that heavy.

Hi, Roger
Birch bark makes beautiful handles, I am not sure about the weight and don't care they look nice. They turn on the lathe fine. I like to use rod to glue them together.
Be careful to clean the thin paper like layers off the back side of the bark. When I didn't my handles kept breaking apart between the rings if the turning tool caught to hard.
Go for it they look great.

253. 12 wt. fly rod build
Hi,
What reel seats and rod guides does every body like for a 4 piece 9 ft 12 wt salt water fly rod.
I'm using a Tiger Eye blank and a wood and cork handle. First heavy rod.
Has any body used EVA for fly rod grips?
Thanks for any help

257. Re: lathe question
Alex,
I bought the Jet with bed extension and have been very happy with it. I did not get the variable speed, I have only changed my speed once and then only because of my chuck speed rating.
Definitely been very glad I did. So far I have only done handles and turned down swelled buts. Good luck with whichever you decide.

I like building rods but I don't have the patience to do that many rods that quickly. I prefer to do it at my pleasure. Good luck with your deadline.

261. reelseats
I need a reel seat for a cigar shape handle that just butts up against the handle and does not need recessed. I really don't want to change the seat end of my handle, it turned out really well, the center section is natural burl cork with black cherry and buffalo scales on the ends. Any help would be a great help.
