Last year I bought a mini woodworking lathe from Harborfreight on sale ...... I really haven't used it yet but I plan to use it for turning rod handles and for making saltwater striper lures. I'm wondering what kind of chucks I need for truning the handles and where I can get them. THanks Rick

another site also mentioned the solution to correcting mistakes of things that have been epoxied was to place them in boiling water only after the water has begun to boil and they suggested putting it into a heat resistant plastic bag ........... i guess like the kind you cook a turkey in ....... this will help preserve any thread or other work you may have done ......... and it will help you sta

Sorry you can't access it ......... it's a yellow rod that they sold at the Timonium (MD) boat show last weekend ....... essentially it's a rodseat the mounts right to the blank and you are holding the naked blank and reel on the reelseat .......... now that should be sensitive ........... tried to post a picture on the picture section of this site but it asked me for my login and password w

Where can I get the components for split grips .......... particularly the reel seats like these

Buddy; I think we understand that different factors will affect sensitivity in a specific situation. We are focusing here on just what makes a reel seat and foregrip more sensitive since that is where I hold the rod and feel what is going on ............ and I respectfully disagree ......... I have fished with 2 identical setups before and one was very sensitive and the other wasn't (because

Ok ........ so let me summarize what I think has been said ....... 1) A rod is at its most sensitive point when it is a bare blank, and anything we add to that blank takes away from it's sensitivity Therefore since I get my sensitivity from the reel seat that must be shimmed somewhat and the foregrip of my spinning tackle, it would benefit the sensitivity if I made a foregrip short enough

Steve; I understand that harder substances usually transmit vibrations more efficiently . You sem to imply that you get more "feel" from the reel than the rod but I find I that I get more vibrations ( feel) from my reel seats and the foregrips. I (like Craig ) are interested on how to make my foregrips and reel seats as sensitive as possible. If I understand you correctly that

Hey guys ........ Craig is asking about the sensitivity of reel seats not the affects of the grade of reel on sensitivity. While I have both good qualit and cheap reels, I've never found the grade of reel had any affect on sensivity because you seldom turn the handle when you need sensivity i.e jigging or dragging a worm etc. That said ...... I've fished with rods that you couldn't feel a thin

I bought some of the 11" cork handles from Mudhole but they didn't come with plugs. It didn't say anything in their advertising so I called them. THey said that the handles didn't come with plugs and they didn't know where I could buy some. THe handles are nice. They are the regular cork and the last inch is a darker cork ............ a friend helped me building a handle and had a plug b

Many years ago when I built my first (and only) rod ......... I made sure I had the right spot on the rod for the guide and I put the tinyest drop of super glue ......... it did the job of holding the guide in place while wrapping .......... don't know whether that's acceptable but it worked ........ only 1 spot on the guide not the whole foot ..........

Thanks Guys ......... I ordered the 1/2 " and 5/8" yesterday from Mudhole .......... I also received rod handles, reel seats and foregrips yesterday ........ looks like I've got a lot to learn and figureout about fitting the handles to the rod and how to give the handle a finished look ......... especially the front end of the foregrip .......

Has anyone heard of a tool for boring out cork handles. It is a spade bit the has the sides sharpened and used on a drill in reverse and has an extention .......... Does anyone know where I can buy one? It allows you to start the bit on the far end and pull toward you ......... the shaft and extention make a great guide and pulling it back would seem to keep the bit straighter ..........

First, as someone said ..... a patent or copyright or patent is only good if you can afford to defend it. Second, I'm not sure about copyright's but I believe patents are only good for a certain period of time so you'd better be prepared to use it when you patent it. The Idea of publishing an idea/method/tool is a good idea. It establishes a point in time when it was announced and it also g

As I said before, I'm a real newbie at this. I ordered 19 . Some for practice in making rods and some to sell to others at my cost who might want to try their hand at rod building at a reasonable cost. I don't know what I'm looking at so I took them to a friend that has a real good reputation for rod building and usually used Batson Blanks. We went over all 19 rods with a fine tooth comb

Spencer, Thanks ............ I tried that and I can't seem to find much pertinent information. The info that I could find listed a brand name of a blank but not specs. They did not list the length or the action or the but or tip dimensions or the line weight ratings or what characteristics the chosen blank possessed that they liked ........ Can you suggest a search or some specs ?

I bought a bunch of them. I was told they were 1st quality and that they came off of the Shikari machines. I ordered MH 6', 6'6", 7' ........ When I received them, most look ok. However, some are longer than others for the 6'6" rods and the bottoms and tops are ragged. At first I thought some of the tips were broken but I looked in the bottom of the box for pieces and there were non
