Billy, Thanks for the update. But that brings up another question in my mind. Is there a place that I can find out more about the different threads and their quality/characteristics? For example, I see rod building thread made by a few manufacturers and then I see other threads such as embroidery thread made by Maderia that I hear some people use. THis is near and dear to me right now bec

Tom Thanks for the information .......... something like what you just said ( a synopsis) along with chapter and verse like this is real good. As I said I have suscribed and I have bought back issues whare I had a deeper interest in a certain subject but just chapter and verse is worthless unless you want to order and wait days or more to get tjhe answer to a simple question. Does someone have an explanation for those that do not have that back issue ............ I am a paying member/subscriber and I have some of the back issues but I am a beginner like many people on here and I would like to see some information about a requested subject in addition to the page and issue of the periodical. Many of us don't have the expertise of many on this board or the money to

First find where you want your balancing point to be .......... some people like it right at the grip and some like it at the reel spool and some like it farther forward. Then tape or rubber band a weight at the end of the but until you find the balance you want. I don't think it would be much over an oz if that ........ then you know how much to add at the end of the butt section. If

Andy; I'm a newbie. I bought some of your mandrils before and I love them and I just received some of your TM Light based on the recommendations I read on other posts on several websites. This thread author asked about the time it takes TM Lite to harden but I didn't see an answer. I to am interested in this because I was hoping to finish a couple of rods this weekend to use next week on th

No Doc .......... I should have probably looked further ........... I'm very satisified with both the DVD and the jig so please don't take it as anything negative ......... I just knew that I could get the help I needed here so that's where I posted ............. and I think we are all guilty of not realizing how much some others don't know about what we do naturally in our area of expertise

I was home with the Flu but the info at those seminars wouid have been what I would have gone to the show for ............ Even if I had attended, I would have missed good info because there were a couple of seminars going one at the same time ........ Just a thought .........

As a beginner that hasn't even started yet, a couple of newbie questions What is the rule of thumb for the thread size to use for weaving on a graphite blank? Also, is there a you tube or other video/dvd on using a rod weaving loom ......... every one I've seen so far just uses tape when weaving ...... Thanks Rick

A 5 lb bass on a flyrod is more fun than most trout and a 5 lb in Texas is more common than a rattle snake .......... in addition you have a whole Gulf coastline with tons of speck, redfish and other fish .......... shoot you can even catch tarpon on some of them ............

I have a cheap Harborfreight variable speed lathe .......... on the head stock I have a drill chuck on a MT-1 and the pointed live center on the tailstock. Just mount the mandril with the cork in the drill chuck and move the tail stock so the live center is firmly in the cone end of the mandril and tighten ........ turn on and check for an even spin and begin to sand ............ works beautiful

In building the rod grips, should you ream them tight to the blank (just enough room to allow a little epoxy/rodbond or should you allow for a small layer of fiberglass wallboard tape which (I assume) will trap epoxy in the weave and provide a more uniform and tight bond. When do you want to use an underwrap and when do you not? Thanks Rick

Mike, It is variable ........ it has a rheostat knob ........... I went to wood crafters today and bought a drill chuck and a MT1 for the headstock and I was trying to find a ball bearing MTi with a drill chuck for the tailstock but they say it doesn't exist. I was going to use threaded stock as a mandril to turn handles but I'm not sure what to use for the tailstock

Not sure about the MT1 or MT2 taper ....... I do know that the chuck that is used on the head stock to hold a solid leg of wood is tapered. .....have to check when I get home. THe tail stock post can be completely removed which should allow turning a seat that is on the rod with the proper rod supports
