241. Re: Finding Business
Participate in your local or regional fishing web site by offerring advice or comments on fishing rods, their components, how they are built, etc., not in an effort to sell a custom rod, but rather so the board members can make informed purchases about any rod. The custom orders will follow.

Minimum two coats for sealing, 3-5 coats depending upon the amout of sheen the customer wants, apply with finger lengthwise then spin rod and lightly run finger over the cork to work into grain, buff with 0000 steel wool between coats.

244. Re: Reaming EVA/foam
Thanks for the suggestions.
I should have clarified that I got it about 1/3 of the way up but I had loaded up the inside of the grip with Rod Bond, but none on the blank. Are you all suggesting that Rod Bond on the blank will act as a lubricant? Maybe the light is going on.
The outside diameter of grips with larger inside diameters are too large for the client's hands, it's the wife of

245. Reaming EVA/foam
Attempting (feebly) to replace a cork tape rear grip with an EVA foam grip from the bottom up. Unfortunately, the inside diameter of the foam grip is a wee to small and I cannot force it up over the blank, thus the Q. I have tried the normal cork reamers with little success. Is there a better way?
Thanks for your help, need to rest my arms now.

Chestnut brown main, silver or gold trim to pick up the reel highlights, with corresponding glitter in the epoxy (sometimes) with the Cabela's brown woven graphite reel seat, Fuji Alconite chrome guides, really blends into a nice consistent look..

I use a liquor shot glass for mixing, the type which narrows and rounds at the bottom, keeps epoxy on the side to a minimum and mix with one of the spatula type tools I picked up as a set, it's the one that is rounded on the bottom and slightly cupped, never had a striping issue.

I picked up some inexpensive spatula type tools from Harbor Freight and ground and polished them myself. One for applying the epoxy and the other for filling tunnels and squaring off edges. A crochet needle works too for tunnnels. For a burnishing tool I actually use a "burnishing" tool (have had it for twenty-five years), one made for burnishing dry transfer lettering which in turn,

I have the older model with the old chuck and use a hose clamp as added security, now I never have to worry.

254. Re: Surf Rod Blank
I have built three surf rods on the St. Croix 3SRS100M2 blank, one for myself two years ago even though I have only surf fished twice, thus my casting technique needs a lot of work. Even with that handicap, I was able to rountinely make 100 yard casts with 2 oz of weight. My two clients opted to have their rods made from the same blank after casting my personal rod, both are experienced surf fi

This winter several members of our Connecticut fishing web site (CTFishermen.com) put on a series of seminars on different fishing related topics. As the self proclaimed resident rod builder, I put one together, not focused on custom rod building, but what I called "The Anatomy of a Fishing Rod". I discussed and demonstrated the various aspects of a rod, design, components, actions, e

Billy B. if you are talking freshwater spinning rods take a look at Cabelas' woven graphite reel seats in three colors, the brown is a perfect complement for St. Croix's LE blanks.

259. Re: Ferrule Cement
Thank you Ralph, I'm in the middle of a rod re-wrap repair and I noticed that the butt ferrule was loose. I'll fix it even though my customer did not know about the problem.
