Can you weld the parts together than anodise ? anodise gets down in the pours of the alumiun and the epoxy might not give a good bond , when they anodise they first put the part in a cleaner that is heated up then it goes into the anodise tank that is also hot. epoxy before hand might not hold because of the heat..

I too like the hot glue for guides it is differant than the tip top glue stick as after you are done the wrap you can still move the guide around.flex coat makes it

jaret the gator blank the i did had rings on it and was not a smooth finish. What I did was after the wraps where done and coated i mix up some rod finish and coated the blank in between the guide wraps with a thin coat of the finish. I fished with that rod jigging with a good bend in the rod and it held up.

miles I have built with those blanks and found no problems and they have held up to some pretty good size fish. the only thing was one of the pink color blank faded out on a freinds that I built it for her but she used it ever day during the summer and it took a lot of sun light.

I Take a file and file the wrap down on top of the guide foot{ so not to hit blank} if two foot guide do both. pop guide off of blank peel thread and finish of of that area and find thread end and pull thread out from under finish this will make finish pop off .some rod finish needs a little heat and i use a heat gun to soften and i use a old credit card or use up gift card to scrape finish off

thanks for all the tips the damage area is in a small area of the grip it looks like where the top of the rod holder put some chew markers on it and a piece missing out of fore grip.I never used any pit paste before but i will give it a try first before replacement. don"t know if he would go for other grips as this is his a 30 yr old star rod that is his favorite rod.

scott tell us the kind of rod you plan to build (fly rod, offshore trolling, ) that might help to tell you what to try and weather you want a lite or heavy coat on your thread wraps. for epoxy i like the paste epoxy because of it not running all over like liquids.
